Happy New Year! The future of SatelliteGuys

The new site name might help. I also support the idea of donor drives (separate from Pub memberships).

I don't think most new users will remember the name once they see this and close the browser window. Personally I've never seen an ad like this and then signed up or continued to use a site anyways. I hope this is the most lucrative ad on the whole site, because I'd expect it to be the biggest...

Happy New Year! The future of SatelliteGuys

I use a mix; mostly satellite and some streaming. I realize that SatTV is shifting to streaming and/or cable, but out here in the boonies, where the power in a big storm can be out for days (have a whole home generator, so not an issue), but when the line power goes out, so does the cable and...

    110/119 Listings Post 129 Transition (Updated 9/1/2025)

On yesterday's uplink, all the Christmas Dish Scapes were removed along with the December free previews. Something I found interesting is Dish has 4 channels up called "HD Migration Channel." Not sure what these 4 channels are going to be used for - if these are going to be future slates when...

A good start, will be up to the existing members to try and changing posting habits or nothing will change. I made my case and followed my own recommendations - but stopped, because it was clear that the interest wasn't there. Remains to be seen how much life there can be beyond the Pub...

    Insufficient Bandwidth - 1518 Message

In the interest of keeping my unique issues in their own thread, I'm creating this thread to pull it out from being buried in others. All of my receivers (two Hopper 3s and Joey 4) will not download a 4k/UHD PPV or OnDemand show from DISH. It always throws up the 1518 window that says "Your...

You went from how the media was distributed , satellite ,to the device you view it on, TV. Many of us don't use satellite for delivery . We use streaming or cable , .likewise many of us don't use TV to view the media. We use desktop monitors, laptop screens, cell phone screens, tablets, or all...

    2025-26 College Football

Up here in Ohio, I think they Just now allowed them to have the 7 on 7 tournaments ... I'm not sure If the have an NIL agreement in place or not ... that also screws with the system, when some of the country can have it one way and the rest not, thats a clear disadvantage.

    2025-26 College Football

Personally, I wouldn't have gone to 12 teams ... I would have done 8, 10 tops, but your never going to go Back ... Keep expanding and keep diluting the season. Pretty soon, you'll have 4-5 loss teams playing for it all (ala Duke). I don't necessarily like the idea of Automatic bids either...

    2025-26 College Football

I agree 100% on the portal issue. They've got to find a way to fix that mess. It's destroying college sports. You shouldn't be able to "declare" you're going into the portal until it opens, and the NCAA needs to enforce a strict ban against coach tampering like the NFL does. If a school wants to...

Wow. Never heard of fiber being divided down slowing when the number of users go up. Backbone is a separate issue.

Sorta side question, is it the TNAP 6.1 that allows low SRs or the hardware? I've seen the non-supreme version "around"

    Verizon buying Frontier

The diameter of the pipe doesn't change the capacity of the switchgear, nor the Internet connection provisioning. My local telco used to brag about its DS3 connections, but ultimately, Internet traffic was hamstrung by its shared "cloud" capacity to the backbone. In the grand scheme, the...
