    How things have changed

Have you tried a speedtest running an ethernet cable directly out the back of their modem? If you're not getting the speeds they promise, they're required to work on it until they do!

    How things have changed

Only thing available in my town is still 50/10 DSL from CCI, but a local telecom is bringing in fiber soon.

    How things have changed

90% still seems high to me; what is the gov't defining as "broadband" these days?

    ADTH Nextgen set-top box

Unfortunately, the unit began to misbehave the other day so I'm sending it back for a refund. It runs hot and some channels freeze, channels that have very solid signal strength and quality.

Wondering what channels I can get with some old equipment.

You can't use the Directv receivers for anything on FTA. You'll need a new receiver.

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

It still does.. but over time I realized that saving money sometimes requires investment now for returns later.

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

Like many other forms of credit, postpaid service ends up costing them more in the end, just for the luxury of being able to finance a phone.

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

It depends on the need. I like my iPhone 15 Pro and I like unlimited 5G UW data, so buying the phone in cash and then using Visible+ for $35 a month saves me money over Verizon postpaid and a financed phone. My dad on the other hand got a free Android phone from Tracfone and that service meets...

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

I would tend to agree with you when it comes to expensive smart phones. Most people would want to finance those. It would be interesting to see some research by prepaid carriers on which percentage of users BYOP and which percentage buy/finance a device.

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

...unless you purchase the phone directly from the prepaid service (many sell their own devices). My preference is to purchase a phone that comes unlocked out of the box. That being said, I've also never had need for an international/global phone. My current iPhone 15 is A2848, which apparently...

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

Wouldn't Apple just make one model then? Why make 4 different regional models?

FCC wants to make carriers unlock phones within 60 days of activation

Just finished reading all these replies. From what I can tell, most new(er) phones will work with any carrier globally, except those that are activation locked by the carrier (like AT&T)? If that's so, why are there still region-specific versions of, say, the iPhone 15: A3090 (International)...

Bally Sports RSNs Are Reportedly Preparing For Bankruptcy

Good. Hopefully MLB will allow each team to do their own thing and some of them will go OTA. I'm probably just dreaming, though.

Sling to air All Star Game in 4K

Appears to me to be in the IPTV section.

Sling to air All Star Game in 4K

Cool, but it seems like a missed opportunity for Fox to air it in 4K over their ATSC 3.0 OTA feeds!

    ADTH Nextgen set-top box

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm very pleased with it. It receives all my local ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 stations and decrypts the DRM protected ones. It receives PSIP guide data and has many customizable settings. Despite the many bugs these units had after initial launch last year, I...

Looks like Physical Movie Rental are almost gone

You can't actually purchase a title from Movies Anywhere, right? You buy them through Vudu/Fandango, iTunes, or some other vendor, and then add those collections to Movies Anywhere.

    OTHER GTMEDIA V7 or V9?

I haven't checked, but I also haven't had any problems with the current firmware.

    OTHER GTMEDIA V7 or V9?

It can also handle DVB-S2X and high symbol rate feeds. Since I swapped out my old receiver for the V7S5X, I've seen a lot more feeds scan in, albeit most of them data.

    OTHER GTMEDIA V7 or V9?

I have this unit and I concur. It's a solid receiver for the money.

Looks like Physical Movie Rental are almost gone

I also sold off or gave away all my physical media. The stuff I cared about is stored in legit cloud services. It makes me nervous not having physical copies of everything, but I figure if the cloud infrastructure blows up for some reason, we will have bigger worries than not having access to...
