    Roku decides to ruin pausing

Well, yes and no. I can stop buying Roku products, but what do I do about the Roku TV I already have that I use with an AppleTV 4K? This kind of Darth Vader "I am altering the deal..." changing of the terms and conditions, and changing the basic functionality of their products after purchase...

I'd buy a high end 24" TV if I could find one, but they don't exist.

    Roku decides to ruin pausing

I really hate that Roku is planning to do this, but we still unfortunately need to have alternative streaming platforms available, and having a Roku TV just saved me when my wife was trying to watch Paramount+ when the app wouldn't launch on the kitchen ATV4K for no apparent reason. As for why...

It had to be DVR. Never watched any On-demand content on D*. Probably around 2011/12.

I remember when DirecTV prevented me from Fast Forwarding certain shows. I can't remember if it was a bug or intentional.

Streaming services using linear TV to help with income

It never made sense to me that so much content was streaming only. Sure, maybe you want some streaming first shows, but why not monetize whatever you produce in whatever way you can.

YouTube TV is now the #4 Video Provider for the United States

https://www.lightreading.com/video-streaming/youtube-tv-set-to-become-top-us-pay-tv-provider-by-2026-analyst It is a MoffettNathanson prediction, so probably wrong, but it feels like it is right.

YouTube TV is now the #4 Video Provider for the United States

Just to be clear, we are discussing YouTube TV which is biologically and technologically distinct from YouTube. It has not been assimilated.

Like Bruce said, a single button press is either 15 seconds forward or back. If you hold the button down, it will scrub forward or back. The speed will increase if you hold the button down long enough.

YouTube TV is now the #4 Video Provider for the United States

There are a couple of different ways to get to the episode, depending on whether it is newly recorded. At a minimum, if you go to the show, you can sort through bu season and episode pretty quickly. e.g.:

No, that is now how their DVR works. Not sure if this is why, but it may be to avoid paying a license fee to a patent holder for a particular software feature.

Traditional Providers Losses, the entire year of 2023 Edition

I don't even mind paying a little for access to sports, but it effectively became a disproportionate amount of the cable bill by Disney et. al. requiring a huge bundle of channels at a higher rate in order to get the sports channels which cable companies knew they couldn't go without. There are...

Traditional Providers Losses, the entire year of 2023 Edition

Higher production costs are a problem now, but I argue that is a symptom not a cause. Higher quality productions were a lot rarer before the advent of SVOD (Netflix, etc.). HBO and Showtime were the sources for most of the past "prestige" TV shows. Regular network TV would do some miniseries...

Traditional Providers Losses, the entire year of 2023 Edition

My mom texted me last night to tell me how happy she was I made my parents switch to YTTV from Spectrum. In addition to the lower cost, she loves that she can watch 4 college basketball games simultaneously now that tournament season is here. Also possible with Dish of course, but not at the...

Traditional Providers Losses, the entire year of 2023 Edition

I'd argue the blame can also be placed on the media companies for forcing more and more channels onto the cable/satellite companies and their customers at the same time they ruined numerous channels by replacing quality programming with drek. It was always going to end badly for that model, and...

Warner, Fox, Disney to Launch Streaming Sports Joint Venture

It is always both. That said, I do think greed is a large part of how we got to where we are, where greed equals the expectation from shareholders that revenue will improve quarter over quarter at a certain rate of growth forever. That is what drove media companies to launch new cable channels...
