    HBO Max/Discovery+ Merger

Honestly, it more about HDR than it is 4K for me. HD with HDR would be fine if that is what I got with the HD plan.

    HBO Max/Discovery+ Merger

If it had the 4K content on HBOMax, I'd go for it. Instead, I will be signing up for an annual plan as soon as my free subscription from AT&T runs out next month.

    How things have changed

I just got $70 Google Fiber 1Gb service to replace AT&T Fiber 1Gb after AT&T: 1. Increased the price 3 times in 2 years from $70 to $90. 2. "Experienced" multiple data breaches. 3. Had their CTO start talking about doing away with unlimited data (aka instituting tiered pricing based on usage or...

Looks like Physical Movie Rental are almost gone

I was actually wondering if it will turn around, not if it is turning around, so no need for a duplicated post. I suspect piracy will grow way before physical media sales start to recover, but I'll be curious to see what happens, so please continue to post future numbers. As for the licensing...

Looks like Physical Movie Rental are almost gone

I'll be curious to see if this turns around. I know a lot of people who have started buying discs again due to the issues of content "ownership," but that could just be my peer group. Of course, I know a number of people who have started pirating content as SVOD prices have risen as well.

    How things have changed

If you read the fine print in the first graphic, YTTV is not in with YT Main. Where it is isn't clear -- maybe cable or other? Interesting that Paramount+ went from nowhere on the graph to 1.2%.

Yeah, I have all my physical media ripped to a Jellyfin server for easy access.

Looks like Physical Movie Rental are almost gone

I finally read this all the way through. Sounds like this is just about recordable DB discs which aren't selling any more.

Moar debt! That will solve the problem. ;)

Looks like Physical Movie Rental are almost gone

I still buy physical disks since I've been burned by losing access to stuff I bought on iTunes and Amazon Video back in the day. More and more stuff I have to buy the UK or Australia import because it isn't available here any more. Meanwhile researchers have developed a 200TB optical disk...

I'd rather have you pay me $8.50 a month than $0 a month too.

Um...why exactly did you think I posted the GIF? If it wasn't clear, it was about another name change for what should have always just been HBO.

Streaming execs think TV’s future looks a lot like its past

Even paying for the ad-free tiers, I am still paying less than I used to for Dish/DirecTV, so it is worth it to me and my wife.

Streaming execs think TV’s future looks a lot like its past

https://techcrunch.com/2024/06/23/streaming-execs-think-tvs-future-looks-a-lot-like-its-past/ "More ads, higher prices, and fewer big swings on prestige TV." Don't forget the more piracy that goes along with those things. Not that I endorse it -- just a fact of life.

Sport’s TV Ratings are Terrible ( except Football)

Well, are they just down overall, or in demographics that matter to advertisers? I can see NBC, ESPN, etc. being more willing to pony up for sports that are losing older viewers, like myself, as long as the younger demos are growing. Or is it really just a low-risk investment in something with...

Sport’s TV Ratings are Terrible ( except Football)

My question is: what are the trends in ratings for these sports? I know F1 ratings have been on the rise the last few years with Drive to Survive, uh, 'driving' interest in the sport. Also, I remember reading this after the NCAA basketball tournaments this year...

    Youtube TV sub losses

Venue is a sports-oriented vMVPD, like YouTube TV. ESPN is also going to launch a standalone streaming service, similar to ESPN+, but with all their live sports content.

I cancelled in May with no intention of signing back up. The vMVPD services always felt like a temporary stop along the way.

That is entirely dependent on the market. Spectrum has said publicly they are not going to haggle with existing customers in NC in areas where the fiber providers are moving in. My parents have also found this to be true where they live in NY.

    How things have changed

I understand what people mean about AT&T and their "crap." That said, that seems to describe every large company these days, so I try to focus on the best product at the best price and not worry too much about the crap since it is pretty much universal. As for Google, it is just a different...
