Prime Video ads to double

I guess not enough people paid the $2.99 fee for ad free. I didn't pay and just download any content I want to see with PlayOn and put it on my GetChannels DVR. When watching from there it auto skips the ads. Worked great for the newest season of Reacher.

Seems like the more you watch on Prime, the more ads you see. My wife and I watched the latest season of Reacher. The first episode had no ads, but each subsequent episode had more and more ads. Pretty sure we were seeing more than 3 minutes worth at the end of the season.

Watched the latest season of Clarksons Farm on the prime app on my AppleTV 4K and didn't get a single ad in any episodes. I don't watch much on prime though.
Same. I think they are cleverly not doing ads from their most desired content when it first comes out and putting ads on older stuff.

To be honest, I don't hate this model because it encourages you to watch new shows when they come out and also doesn't punish the eager consumer. On the flip side, it helps the provider monetize older content and incentivizes keeping it available. IIRC, the big issue when streaming first started was they loaded the services up with tons of content to get subscribers, but then realized most of the unsustainable losses were from the need to pay the rights holders their residuals, hence a lot of content was taken off the services. If the ads can pay for the residuals and keep older stuff available, I'm here for that.

You can, just pay that additional $3 a month. I have done that since ads became a thing on Amazon. I don't miss that $3 one bit...
Yeah, I pay that as well. But I wonder how much of the ad or ad-free payoff revenue is to pay for the NFL rights to one-ish game a week.

I wish they had a free shipping only tier rather than lumping in a bunch of services I don't want. It doesn't look like I'm missing out on anything by cancelling that subscription.

The ads are too repetitive..don't really need the same ad 14x

There are several things we want to watch on Prime this month, so I paid the $3. At least they seems to have fixed the bug in the AppleTV app where if you paid for ad-free, it skips to the end of the episode whenever you reach the point at which an ad would have played.
