What? No ODI World Cup Thread?

Meanwhile in the world of Cricket, an absolute bonkers of a match in Pakistan between the home nation and England. Pakistan hit 556 in their first innings (that is a lot!). Three players with a century (100+ runs), think of it like a basketball player scoring 50 points. England goes up to bat...

    MLB 2024 Season

Tigers are peaking at the wrong time for people in NE Ohio. It isn't like Cleveland was slumping into the playoffs either. Three games, three shutouts. Tigers can close it off tonight and ruin what was a rather miracle-like season for the Guardians... or Cleveland can take it back to Ohio for...

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

That level of stuff is years down the road. I would presume in order to use Dish's agreements, they'd need Dish equipment and to use Dish sats.

    Our Contract end again

WHAT?! I see thread after thread about people getting upset their $40 to $60 discount they arranged for 12 to 24 months has expired. It seems like Dish (I can't speak for Directv) is willing to cut out a good deal of the cost to keep subs.

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

But both companies have streaming rights. If this were just Sat, maybe not the best idea, but there is a model to move forward. It will die off eventually, but TPG already had the bloated, decaying carcass of Directv. For $1 and acquisition of some debt, they got some uniquely tight...

Smart TVs are like “a digital Trojan Horse” in people’s homes

Well, if people demanded it and made it a broad priority a "Digital Bill of Rights" is within the realm of possibility. I think you are nuts thinking you are secure via a VPN. Also, do you have all those Facebook / Google Analytics trackers at most websites turned off?

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

Well yeah. No one thinks Sat TV is a game winning into the future model. TPG is getting Dish for a song. Actually that'd be soccer "channel" and not even that any more as the EPL is on USA, not a standalone. FSC hasn't be around in a long time, and NBCSN has been gone a while too now. European...

DTV & DISHTV, Wife said she heard they are merging next week on CNBC today?

Not remotely similar. Sinclair overleveraged itself to buy the RSNs to use as a proxy to make lots of money via gambling. They forgot about the word "licensing" and the plan blew up in their face, and they went to a really bad Plan B. TPG has cash. TPG could scuttle this long-term, but I've...

Alabama drop 6 whole spots to 7th with loss to Vanderbilt. Not exactly certain how in the world it is possible to statistically parse defeating a school that hasn't lost in a few years... and losing at home to... Vanderbilt. How many teams in the top ten could beat Georgia... how many would lose...

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

TPG is publicly traded. I'm not certain if that makes their filings the filings from heck, because they are listing the financials of a bazillion or so corporations they own. Or whether they all go under a single line item in an SEC filing.

Oh, one other thing, does Ergen hold onto Dish's trademark of Soon (tm) or does TPG get that too?

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

In time, maybe, but right now, they effectively remain two different companies operating under different agreements with varying channel providers. It would be unwise to hike the rates of Dish subs more than they already have at this point for the year.

    MLB 2024 Season

Presuming the Yankees play in prime time. Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland are not the largest markets. Imagine any manner of dark magic being played out to ensure the Mets win. :D

DTV & DISHTV, Wife said she heard they are merging next week on CNBC today?

Echostar is, not as much Dish. Didn't realize private equity firms were going public. I can't see Echostar voting this down. How much of TPG is in the wild to vote it down?

    MLB 2024 Season

Hoping the ALDS is during the daytime in Cleveland/Detroit. Lows in Cleveland to be in the low 50s which isn't terrible, but if it includes a breeze off the lake, it won't be particularly comfortable. Upper 40s next week for the lows.

    Vegas, the sports town?

Wait... the team only wants the city to spend $300ish million? That is like a freebie. The Haslams want a billion or so for the existing football stadium in Cleveland, which isn't even 30 years old.

OSU Michigan State game 9/28/24 only on Peacock

They need to pass a law that forces streaming companies to advertise the start of the stream and the start of the event. Such a first world problem, to get set for the stream at 10:30... and the screen reads, 'This broadcast will begin shortly'... like in a half hour!
