Thanks. I just went outside and felt along the outside cable. There is a slight indentation - from the tooth of my dog, no doubt - is this the kind of thing that could affect the ability of the receiver to pull HD locals (but have no effect on anything else)? I don't even know if it happened...

I believe the SD locals are on a different sat, as I always received them even when I had the old dish. The D* had no idea what to do, so they just made a tech appointment. The strangest thing is that the HD locals were okay when the thing was installed on the 7th....only went black later.

They are through D*. All sats except 99b are getting signals over 80 in strength, and SD locals are there. 99b reports "failed" and the HD locals (while selectable in the guide) are black with the message noted above. :/

Hmm. Mine is set to EZ DVI but it automatically switches the format based on the format of the channel. Switch to SD, it goes to 480i. Switch to ESPNHD, it goes to 780p. Switch to DSCHD, it goes to 1080i. I like this, since my TV automatically adjusts the picture to match the native format...

Here's a better question...when will Bravo add their signature series to the channel? Their website is a model of disinformation.

Woohoo! I picked a logical place to run the cable, and one hour later, everything is up and running. Now, to cancel those installers and get a credit on my account for the install charge...maybe I'll leave a note for the installers that I'll be around from 8 to 12. :) :) :)

DirecTV has a page on their site that will tell you the grade based on your address. I found it by clicking on the "more info about CBS HD" link in the DirecTV packaging page describing the local channels. Stinks for me ... Grade B and A channels for all, but the indoor antenna I tried...

Does anyone know the criteria for getting a waiver? I would have thought that you had to live in a rural area that doesn't receive a signal, but if you can get a waiver in Philly, maybe there's hope for me to get a waiver in a DC suburb?

Just to update this....I got on the phone with DirecTV and was informed that old non-RG6 cabling may not pass through the frequency that the HD receiver needs to detect the dish. Best Buy (where I bought the dish) refused to arrange for installation (other than something under their $400...

Well....I've tried everything, even replacing the cable from the wall to the unit. Nothing. I took the Receiver to the other tv, connected it and it works fine, so I swapped out the LNBs, took it back downstairs, and it won't work. At this point, I have to assume there's something wrong...

Could the culprit be cabling? I can't tell whether the cable leading from the wall jack (left by the installer last year) is R6 or not.

Yes. Both of the old receivers in the house are receiving both Sat A and B, and getting a perfect SD picture. Connect the HD receiver and get nothing.

Hi, my Triple LNB dish has a built in multiswitch, so there's just one cable going to each receiver. Both Sat A and B get strong signals on both old receivers, but when I plug in the new HD box, it not only fails to detect the dish, but gets NO signal for either Sat. I'm stumped.
