    Biggest EHD for a 211k?

Well these DVRs have some sort of embedded linux OS I'm guessing. Depending on block size 2tb might be the limit for drive size. We hit the 2tb limit for drive sizes in windows frequently. Only way around it is an alternate partition type in windows. Linux could change block size or go to...

Wow is Google TV a joke

With V2 of the software its somewhat useless. When honeycomb hits it will have the ability to use apps, stream more media, etc.

Surge Protectors - Use Them or Not?

I'm on a rack mount enterprise grade power conditioner, it does voltage regulation, pure sine wave, surge protection etc. I would never run myy equipment directly off a wall plug.

Sharing same External hard drive with multiple DVRs

~16.4ft is the stated standard for USB 2.0 and earlier (5 meters). Once you exceed that distance you start to exceed the allowable delay of 26ns per command and the usb device is considered lost to the host. I've used a 25ft cable for a cheapo laser printer with no issue, but I would not use a...

Which HDMI cable should i get for my TV?

HDMI is digital. It works or it doesn't. There will be absolutely zero difference between a $5 monoprice cable and $2000 audioquest. Its all snakeoil marketing for the mon$ter cables, etc.

Which HDMI cable should i get for my TV?

There's very little margin on the TV's themselves, thats why they always hawk the over priced crap a la monstercable and 400 dollar warranties for a 1000 dollar tv.

Sometimes DISH reall burns me up...

Its optional, but if you choose not to provide it you pay up front ahead for the next month, and you have to make an outrageous deposit for equipment etc. Comcast wanted something like $500 for a deposit for equipment and first months payment, and tech install fee all in advance. Its a matter...

Sometimes DISH reall burns me up...

Worse than that they want your SSN too or you have to pay a deposit. At least around here.

211k w/EHD as HD DVR compared to "real" 722k

Why would they charge a dvr fee for the 211k? They charge you 40 bucks in one shot to use an ehd on it.

    Discovery HD Sound Problem

Its like they have their channels mixed up, my LR surround is acting more like my center. We have a crappy CBS affiliate in my area that likes to mess up their sound too. I would expect this type of crap from a broke affiliate, but not from a good channel like DC.

My HOA is forcing me to say goodbye to DISH

Its crap like this that makes me glad I chose to never move to a place with a HoA, or board, restrictive covenents, whatever.

    Discovery HD Sound Problem

Im having a problem with Discovery Channel HD. I have 9.1 home theater setup with a pioneer elite receiver. I've got the vip612 hooked up to the receiver via hdmi, and the receiver outputs to the tv via its hdmi out (tv speakers are never used). When I watch DCHD all the sound is coming out...

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

And with the trash they call television, I can't even think of a time where there'd actually be 6 shows on at the same time id actually want to watch haha.

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

My laptop only draws 28 watts at full load ;)

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

So... let's do the math here... Let's say for the sake of argument that the receiver draws 60watts and the average customer has 2 receivers. 120 watts X 24 hrs a day X 30 days a month = 86.4 kw a month @ 10c a kw = $8.64 a month or $103.68 a YEAR. I don't know about you but that's an ENTIRE...

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

I maxed out the credit last year for my furnace and AC, and got a huge rebate from the power co. I'm on a gas water heater that only pulls about 6 therms a month, so I'm not too worried about that. I checked again on my receiver, it turns out the auto standby on my subwoofer isnt quite as...

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

When you look at it, the receiver is essentially a computer with an embedded linux derivative type os. In the enterprise world I work in we always used to have the mandate that users had to leave their workstations on to receive patches, updates, etc. Now, even our windows and linux...

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

Its some mandate from my state that the power co has to 'inform' consumers and 'educate' on smart power choices. Yup no choice on the dehumdifier, basement gets up to 70% or so if I don't run it. Switched to CFL's years ago before it was 'trendy' to be green.

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

I pretty much know where my power loads are from: Home Theater, Computer with 3 monitors, always on media server, big chest freezer, 70pint dehumidifier in a damp basement, and a house that is about is 30 to 50% bigger than my neighbors. I was one of the first houses on the block to be built...

    Power Consumption of Dish Receivers

So I got a nastygram from my power company yesterday. They say I use 30% more electricity than my 'effcient' neighbors and 9% more than my average neighbors. So I was curious about what power load all my various toys use. I got a kill-a-watt to see. It turns out that my vip612 in standby...

Is the HD quality of today really getting worse

It really wont matter what resolutions the tv and equipment can support when companies like dish and crapcast neuter the hd signal with compression and reduced resolution. Its all about cramming more signal into existing bandwidth in order to extract maximum profit out of existing...
