    DirectTV Not Buying Dish

I guess I would have thought it would have been a sticky thread at the top of this forum.

    DirectTV Not Buying Dish

I don’t visit any other areas of Satelliteguys so didn’t know.

    DirectTV Not Buying Dish

Didn't see this posted over the weekend so thought I'd post it. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/11/directv-plan-to-buy-dish-for-1-is-off-as-satellite-rivals-remain-separate/

Dish /Direct Merger Hits A Roadblock

I wonder if any of the debt holders were on the call? Holding 1.6b in debt would warrant a seat at the table. Any way you look at this it'll be a while before this goes through.

Dish /Direct Merger Hits A Roadblock

Not so fast on the merger. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/10/dish-creditors-revolt-over-directv-merger-try-to-block-loss-making-deal/

    Self Rebooting Hopper

Almost success. The H3 has only restarted twice so far. I still have about 50 shows to go. I did add thermal paste to the heat sync and that seems to slow the frequency of reboots but didn’t cure that problem.

    Self Rebooting Hopper

At this point it’s more of an experiment than a solution. Saving my wife’s recordings is my priority. 😁

    Self Rebooting Hopper

Possibly. Not sure if the loose heat sync is the culprit but it sure seems likely.

    Self Rebooting Hopper

So I’ve decided to extract the old HD and use a SATA to USB to connect to the new H3. I opened the old H3 and this is what I found. 🤨

    Self Rebooting Hopper

I don’t have a Linux box so that’s out. I’ll check into accessing the internal HD so maybe hope.

    Self Rebooting Hopper

The H3 is sitting in the open so isn’t a heat issue

    Self Rebooting Hopper

The problem is I can’t keep the old Hopper booted long enough to initialize a transfer.

    Self Rebooting Hopper

No. I disconnected all devices. When connecting via Ethernet one of the Hoppers won’t be connected to the dish. How does that work?

    Self Rebooting Hopper

Hopper keeps rebooting so have a new one coming. My question is there any way to transfer recordings from the old Hoppers HD if it won’t stay booted?

    Wally W577 software update

Thanks Brittany. I connected to the tailgater and the signal was up within 5 minutes. Amazing what the correct software will do. 😜

    Wally W577 software update

Thanks. I did connect the Wally to my home dish and updated the software. I did notice that 129 is no longer part of the acquired signal page. When I have a minute I’ll attach the Wally to my Tailgater Pro. 🤞🏻

So is the Wally still looking for 129?

    Tailgater Pro and Wally

So I bought a used Dish Tailgater Pro and a couple of Wallys. I was able to activate and get it to work once but after that that Wally gets stuck on 058 and the Tailgater constantly looks for satellites. I’ve read many older posts on how frustrating people are with this setup. Any ideas on how...

    H365 has arrived

Has anyone figured out a fix for lack of skip forward on a show that is recording? I started a record on my Hopper 3, paused to continue watching on a Joey in my living room, then couldn't skip forward. Each time I tried skip the show would return to the beginning of the record. This has been...

    Dish Loses Fight With SpaceX

I think this was expected but a 4-0 vote by the FCC seals it. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/05/fcc-saves-starlink-from-5g-interference-backing-spacex-in-fight-against-dish/

    Ground Loop Via COAX

Another solution is a humbucker. It's what we used when I worked in broadcast TV. (Not the guitar pick up.) I think ADC still makes one. HUM-1? It has a transformer in the ground path to effectively isolate the hum. It uses a BNC connector so you'd need BNC to F adaptors. Maybe someone makes a...

Question about comms between satellite and a rooftop dish antenna?

Is your receiver connected to the internet? Streaming?

    Ground Loop Via COAX

It would make sense that the sub would transmit the hum louder. (60hz) Can you run a temporary cable from the Hopper to the Joey? Just to double check the coax. The other possible solution, albeit not a great one, is lifting the ground on the receiver. I had a Carver receiver years ago that...
