DirecTV has crazy retention deals right now

Lots of truth here. Called for my Pops. His bill had crept up to $148 a month. The first person I called was uninterested in helping. So I called back and made sure I selected the "disconnect my service" options in the IVR. Rep I talked to on that call asked a few questions and said "How...

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

It doesn't get much worse than AT&T, Jimbo. Not too worried about the company I move to. OTA doesn't work like that. :) It astounds me the number of folks here who are for this deal. Are you just blind to AT&T's ways? Or do you just not care...

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

I am a customer and I am very worried. Well, worried that I'll have to get off my rear and finally mount that outdoor antenna. I refuse to do any business what so ever with that pathetic excuse of a company. The market is saturated. Everyone that wants satellite service has it (much like the...

Using DECA for "other" network activites

Joseph -> I'm using the built-in DECA on the HR-24 at the moment. I was thinking something along the lines of getting another CCK, splitting the coax at the HR-24. Feed one side to the HR-24, the other to the CCK-jobbie. Then from there to the Denon (which has a 4 port hub on-board, FWIW)...

Using DECA for "other" network activites

I don't want to use a wireless bridge. And pulling ethernet is out of the question.

Using DECA for "other" network activites

Hi all. I've got an idea and I'd like to run it past you to see if it'll work. I've got the hard wired CCK and it's working great. All of my receivers can get to the internet and all is peachy-keen. Recently, I bought a shiny new Denon receiver and it sits next to one of the HR24's. Is...

    Who got the technology first?

I guess if you really want to split hairs. I left in mid-to-late 2002. Did some research - this is the oldest thing I could find: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/DIRECTV+to+Launch+New+High-Definition+Package%3B+New+HD+Package+will...-a0102714896 In it, someone from DTV said they started HD...

    Who got the technology first?

Nooooooooo they did not (at least for DirecTV). I was a DirecTV customer from 1997 until 2002 when I bought my 64" RPTV HD set. DirecTV had no HD offerings at the time. At least not for the general public. A call from the regional manager where I bought my TV to Time Warner got me hooked up...

    HD Extra Pack confusion...

Thanks for the tip, guys. Was able to drop it, and re-add in the same web session.

Reset an HR21-700 HD DVR w/external HD and all recordings are now gone.

My understanding is that if you push the red button your encryption keys get reset. So, while your recordings are still on the external media, the keys used to lock them up are no longer valid. In short, your recordings are gone.

    Charlotte HD's unavailable

Coming up on 15 hours of downtime now for the Charlotte locals (except 42, 55, and 58). A bit annoying and screwing up my recordings.

Yay for bug fixes! Resolution issue is fixed! Now, if they'd just bring back my HD locals that have been out +12 hours now.

    H2x / HR2x CE Release 5/25

Jimbo -- it doesn't matter which option is selected. The problem persists regardless of where native is set.

Indeed. I rolled one of my receivers back to national and the problem went away.

    H2x / HR2x CE Release 5/25

Wonder if this is a Samsung thing. I've got a 64" and a 32" Sammy that are direct connected to the receiver and a 46" Sammy that is connected through an AVR and they all have this issue. It started with the 3/24 download. Something in that one is causing this. Anyone other than Tony, ejb and...

What kind of TV's are you using, Tony? I'm all Samsung and have the problem. Wonder if we have to send reports again with this version?

CE's for the Weekend of 5.18

Roy, per your request, I tested putting a HR24 and for kicks, a H24 back to national. The problem went away. Upon power up, the receiver correctly went to a resolution of 1080i. Starting with the 3/24CE I noticed at all of my receivers were powering up at a resolution of 720p. Even...

CE's for the Weekend of 5.18

Last night's update did not fix my 720p-on-power-up problem. FWIW. Turning the receiver on gets me a resolution of 720p (even though it isn't selected). Changing the channel or starting playback fixes it. I can reproduce this on HR24 and H24's.

CE's for the Weekend of 5.18

@Roy - thanks for the tip. But this started with the 5c1 CE on 3/24. I've only got 1080i and p selected. @dan - you're not the only one.

CE's for the Weekend of 5.18

I'm going to try to stay up tonight to catch this update. I'm so tired of my devices powering on at 720p and then switching to 1080i after I change a channel. I sure hope they fixed that from awhile back.

CE's for the first Weekend of Spring

This update is doing something wonky to the resolutions on all of my receivers (HR24 and H24's). All receivers are configured for 1080i and 1080p only. No other resolutions are configured. When I power on the STB and TV the initial resolution is 720p. Change a channel and the STB resets to...

    Wishlist

Au contraire mon-faire. My shiny new Samsung D8000 is packin' PIP. Same goes for a 2.5 year old Sammy D7100. Now, they both have to have secondary connections on them. Meaning if I only have OTA as an option, then I'm sort of out of luck, since they only have 1 on board tuner. But, wire up...
