Occasionally I have this problem on my iPhone. Once I receive the error if I do nothing and just wait like 30 seconds it connects anyway. You mentioned you have the same problem on your computer as well so not sure what I'm suggesting will really help but thought I would offer it anyway.

Another little trick I found is to toggle the HD only option.. It is in the top right hand column.. I never had the guide come up completely blank but have from time to time had certain channels missing.. The above trick usually fixed the problem. Also make sure you guide says "Everything"...
