    Old Alliance rotor repair

Call Norm's in Birmingham, AL. They are still open and service lots of old rotors and also sell them. https://normsrotorservice.com

Circle closing down at end of year

Watch HEE HAW once in a while on that channel. Hopefully someone will pick it up and keep that show on the air. Enjoyed it a lot when I was a kid. Buck Owens and Roy Clark were great musicians.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

I did click on it. But you didn't mention what the screen shot was. I won't need my Worx Tuner then to determine the channel.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

I will only need one rotor. I do own three in case one goes down. Have two for backup.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

The FCC site has WGEM now using Ch. 22. Only way to find out is to use a tuner that shows the actual frequency of the channel. I have a DTV box that may be able to help. Will try that out.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

This is strange. Just checked the FCC website and noted KHQA does seem to be on UHF Ch. 22 now. But you are correct about WGEM being on Ch. 10. Saw this on the DTV Reception Maps site. Fortunately I have a few VHF antennas and I will start trying those to see how well they do.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

Ch. 7 and 10 are their old analog channel numbers. Both now have UHF assignments in HDTV.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

I can't figure out why Ch. 7 comes in better with less breakup off the backside of the Super G 1483. Figured it was Ch. 28 being nearby. Need to figure out a suitable replacement for the Super G 1483 then.

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

Back to this topic. I purchased the home and have had a chance to test a couple of antennas on the property. More precise location for the search results now that I know where the antenna will be installed. https://www.rabbitears.info/s/1148817 The good news is that I am able to receive...

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

Mike. I will consider it but bear in mind I like to DX. A rotor is far more effective for aiming for the strongest signal than a fixed antenna when you have a swarm of stations coming in some nights from a variety of directions. If I decide to put up two antennas to feed two TV's then this...

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

Mike. This appears to be overkill for my application. I am planning to use a rotor and will only feed one TV. But the bigger issue is the need to significantly reduce or eliminate the Ch. 28 signal. Just how much signal strength will this reduce with Ch. 28? It's not clear to me in the...

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

Thought of one more thing. For a couple of very weak signals in Keokuk (Ch. 14) and (Ch. 17) in Quincy, I was thinking that ganging a couple of UHF antennas might bring them in. A decade ago I lived outside of Kansas City and a Antennacraft HBU 55 on my roof was able to reliable catch two UHF...

Recommendation for very strong UHF signal

I am in the process of buying a home in a small town in Iowa. I did a Signal Analysis and noted a PBS translator in town is probably going to cause problems with out of town reception since I will need a pre amp to obtain most of the other signals that I would watch...

    Televes Pre amp Question

Just purchased the following Pre amp. https://www.nesselectronics.com/products/televes-560382-single-input-antenna-preamp-lte-filter-coaxial-f-fitting-connections-automatic-gain-control-agc The plastic box seems kind of flimsy and the foam at the bottom where you route the coax cable into the...

    Antenna Recommendation

Just installed the Televes single input pre amp and it turns out it works very well on UHF. Tested it at five foot ground level since my new install on the side of the home is more of a project to tackle when I have more time and some help. Noted with the Super G 1483 8 bay it received...

    Antenna Recommendation

Yes. This is a better option at my new location. This will likely be what I use for a second install if needed. I just have a knack for buying single floor homes that are not well suited to antenna installations. No chimney or stink pipe for mounts there either.

    Antenna Recommendation

Mike. Have run tests with two VHF Hi antennas so far. The Y-10-7-13 and the Newark deep fringe mentioned and both are catching the signals that I need but I do need a pre amp at least at five feet. Working on another idea for a guyed mast mount in the back yard also. Noted the peak of my...

    Antenna Recommendation

Yeah, that is pretty much what I tried to tell this guy and he didn't get it. He thought that my testing different antennas and pre amps was a joke. He more or less said that. One size fits all mentality doesn't work for a lot of things including TV antennas and most anything where...

    Antenna Recommendation

Looks like I will be doing the install by myself with a friend. Encountered a rather arrogant, insulting and know it all installer around 100 miles north of my location who apparently does not like my choice of antennas or desire not to put holes in my roof with a tripod mount or use a peak...

Mike. Good to know. I will be south of you in the Fort Wayne to Muncie, IN corridor. If it can withstand those temps, it should be fine. Are you in the UP?

    Antenna Recommendation

Just found a potential issue with this Televes model. While researching the pre amp I found the following link to it and it states the temperature range is 23 degrees Fahrenheit to 113 degrees Fahrenheit. It apparently won't operate well or at all in single digits or below zero temperatures...

    Antenna Recommendation

OK. Will probably buy this. Thanks. I like the Televes pre amp built with the current antenna but the VHF side only consists of a small element and will be useless in the new location. BTW. I think by putting this install at 20 to 22 feet above ground, and by using a good, new pre amp, I...

    Antenna Recommendation

Mike. Thanks. Will look into this. Didn't even know about this pre amp. Have heard good things about Televes pre amps and currently I am using one of their antennas in an urban location and it works well. But it does not have the VHF gain that I need at the new location. Ness Electronics...

    Antenna Recommendation

Posting an update to the previous posts. I did buy the home mentioned and tried a couple of different VHF antennas on site. As luck would have it, I am able to receive Ch. 9 pretty reliably with only a rare breakup from time to time. Not even hourly though I have not spent hours on end...
