    Last Week with Dish!

Yeah - I've got cablevision. The biggest benefit (besides the HD-DVR) is just that it works for my wife. She was so fed up with dealing with Dish software problems and having to reboot the darn 811 that I had to do something. I've just positioned my self as a simple end user - i don't care...

    Last Week with Dish!

I know that dish and the cable co's sound the same but it really depends on what service is in your area for cable. In some areas the cable guys have little if anything to offer - but in some of the biggest markets (NY for me) I can get over 16 HD channels which does include networks...and yeah...

    Last Week with Dish!

I agree - I just did the same thing. While the SA8300HD isnt everything I would hope for it is certainly satisfactory. I just got fed up for waiting for Dish to do something - and if the sat services end up being better in a year or two I'll switch back - but for now its definately the best move...

811 has white spots across top of pic!!!

Does this happen on all channels or just on 1 or a few? On certain channels (for me its only OTA) there can be some white dots and bars that flash across the top of the image on the screen. I'm told (on this and other forums) that it is due to the way in which the provider is doing their closed...

From Dish: Future 811 software updates

Yeah yeah enough of the who gets what credit crap - more importantly is the QAM thing I think. would this be compatible with the same QAM that cable guys use? I think there are 2 different QAM schemes - If it did work that way than it would be great for residential use (like myself). Then I...

RUMOR - FOX HD on Dish for SuperBowl? No Way.

As far as NYC goes - There is a really good local thread on AVSforum.com about NYC covering long island, ct, and nj. I'm about 35 miles out on the island and can get cbs, nbc, and fox with no problem (nbc is on the ESB but hasnt boosted power yet so I cant get them - but who cares they have very...

    RUMOR: Echostar buying Voom?

Odd is right - but for those that want this is from Business Week Jan 10th on page 119. Its brief but its from Analyst Aryeh Bourkoff who works for UBS - quote "Charlie Ergen's Echost Communications Corp satellite service also may be on the block", and the same analyst later on is stated as...

    RUMOR: Echostar buying Voom?

Not sure what to think about E* and Voom - but - in last weeks "Business Week" there was some commentary on the DBS companies and the thought there was that E* was likely to go up for sale itself in 2005. I can get the actual quotes if somebody wants it bad enough, but maybe if there is even the...

    HDTV setup Aspect Ratio ?

Try this thread - its not the complete one but there are 2 different types of 4:3 HDTVs out there (most are option 1, a few are option 2). If you dont know what you need play with the settings and see what gives the right results http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=36680

811 zoom function on 4:3 TV

the 4X3 option#2 will do this It all depends on what the TV can do. Some 4X3 TV's will automatically put any hidef image into a letterbox so the zoom thing on the 811 isnt going to fix it, but some 4X3 TVs dont do this and thats what the 4X3 option #2 in the HD settings menu does - in this case...

What eqpt do u think chuckie has

/music in background Mr A - So chuck, nice place you got here, nice party, why isnt the game on? Chuck - You see its complicated, the software for the receiver sometimes gets funny and things just dont work Mr A - but don't you own the place Chuck - yeah basically, we're trying to...

Disk makes 6:00 news for being a deadbeat

Shortages??? Just figured I'd have to comment - Shortages are regional on all products I see so far except the 921. The superdish is available on demand in some parts of the Northeast (upstate NY can get one whenever they want). And I had an 811 early on, first one died, wouldnt turn on (had a...

OTA Digital signal strength on the 811

most likely antenna I've been using my OTA only box along side my Dish 811 and while each has its own little differences I definately suggest antenna changes for the dropouts. Like others I had originally tried a Terk because the box looked pretty (graphics and pictures) and it was a bit more...

No problem here - works fine for me on CBS east signal

811 and 4:3 panasonic HD aspect ratio problems

to fine tune the answer a bit Almost there - let me add my 2cents - The TV assumes that if the signal is 1080i that it must be a true HD signal, which by default is 16:9 - i think this is a flaw due to the upconversion of SD that most receivers due now, but nearly all 4:3 TVs have this detect...

    Dish Answers your 811 Questions

which paperwork Does anybody have a link to a real manual - all i got so far is the 1 page spec sheet (basically just an ad). I'd like to review it before my scheduled install - doesnt seem right that a dish subscription is needed to get OTA

    Dish Answers your 811 Questions

how about my crappy panny 4:3 OK - dont mean to be one of those guys that just asks questions - but I want to sign for dishnetwork but the 811s specs arent very forthcoming. My panny 4:3 doesnt auto recognize a hd signal and adjust to a 16:9 pic - so I need the option of a physical letterbox...
