Enter to win: Sadoun Heavy Duty DG380 HH Motor ($120 value)

I won a FTA receiver from SatelliteAv last year and this really gave me interest in the drawings. I never thought I had any chance. I have been doing FTA for over 4 years and have a fixed dish and a motorized one. However the motorized one can only see 93 - 129 due to its location. I'd love to...

China CCTV 4 can not get good signal

I observed the same thing. My fixed dish pointing at 95 was ok but motorized one lost CCTV signal from time to time recently. Probably there was some weakness in the signal strength and a not perfectly pointed dish might lose signal. I know my motorized setup was not perfectly tracking the arc.

    HD OTA recording only

The TV guide is available OTA but they are not reliable. I don't have a DVR based on OTA EPG, but I often push the info button on my HDTV remote when I watch live and quite often the station just doesn't put the EPG on air. And here in SF bay area, I notice the EPG is off by an hour probably due...

    Starter FTA system

Let's give my 2 cents on your cable question since I have been rewiring my house a lot recently. In my opinion and experience, RG59 (I don't even know RG58) and splitters are usually the trouble makers unless you have very strong signals to start with. I doubt you can get very strong signal...

    Newbie Troubles

I read another post saying that motor has memories to store locations. Are you sure about this? I could be totally wrong, but based on my EE background if I were to design a motor and receiver system, I would put all location information in the receiver not the motor. The receiver just sends...

    Newbie Troubles

Themango, I have not read thru this thread but it should not take that much trouble and more than 100 messages even for a newbie to install a system. There are basically too many variables: receiver settings, motor, switch etc. If you put all of them at once without any prior FTA experience, it...

Special Free System of the Week Contest Ends 7.7.2008 - Satellite AV

I did not grow up in this country so there is no 7/4 memorable moments while growing up. But, a few years ago, while I was driving from Lake Tahoe to Bay area on 7/4 night, I was very impressed with the fireworks put up by many cities along Interstate 5. They did not start at the same time, so...

    labeling RG6

I am getting more and more RG6 runs to different rooms or different dishes and OTA antennas. I get to a point that I'd better label the cables otherwise very easily get confused with which one goes where. All I think of is to put a label at each end of an RG6 with a letter (A - Z). Just...

Putting in a dish motor - Finding True South Without a Compass!

For the sake of installing a dish on your house, all you need is to take a look at the satellite view from google map. It tells which side of your house is south. If you want more accurate, sadoun has a web page with google's satellite view to show you the direction to hit any bird.

Putting in a dish motor - Finding True South Without a Compass!

I never used a compass for FTA installation and like many people have a hard time to understand how to use it. I feel lots of installation instructions over state the importance of a compass. To me it is not important, actually useless. The game of installing FTA dish (motorized or...

    Mercury II SPDIF problem

I just checked it. Retrojam's Audio PID is 102. I can't get any sound. I have never got any AC-3 audio out of merc II. KWBF carries both AC-3 and stereo. If I push the audio button, it lets me select AC-3 or ENG. If I select ENG, audio PID is 63 and if I select AC-3 audio PID is 40. I can...

I could not get the AC-3 pass thru work from my Mercury II. I connected the optical cable from Mercury II to my Denon receiver which has built-in DD decoder. STB Receivers & cable making

Speaking of cable making, I recently bought set of Paladin tools from Amazon. Excellent tool set and I wish I had it long time ago. It is Paladin SealTite Pro Kit 4910. It is a bit pricy at 80 some dollars at Amazon but other places sell it for more than $100. I also saw a similar kit at...

    Which birds can I hit?

I try to get from 72W to 93W with a fixed dish and then I saw this Toroidal T90 which claims a 40 degree range equivalent of 90cm dish. How good is this dish? I am at west coast and the elevation is 22 degrees to 37 degress from 72W to 93W. I am a bit concerned the low elevation angle. Do...
