ESPN sues Verizon over customizable FiOS TV plans

Well, IF Verizon is violating the terms of their contract with ESPN, then ESPN is within their rights to sue. I don't agree with the way that Disney forces ESPN on everyone, but Verizon should be held accountable for their contract agreements. I see this as the beginning of the death of ESPN...

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

I stated before that I am sure some people still like the programming on TWC. Personally, I enjoyed the channel when I could tune in and get weather updates. They had a niche market that tuned in regularly. I am sure they didn't grow rapidly as most programming providers want to do, but they...

Seriously Dish? Replacing 1080 resolution with 720.

By the way, I don't see how there cound any issue discussing .ts files and video info out of the .ts files. I was concerned about the thread getting into a discussion about methods to get the files off of the DVR. I don't know if admins would have an issue with that or not, but I suspect they...

Seriously Dish? Replacing 1080 resolution with 720.

I didn't even consider that he could have been using a faulty program for the data. If I had a .ts file, I would open it in VLC and get the video info from VLC. I probably made a bad assumption that everyone would do it that way.

Seriously Dish? Replacing 1080 resolution with 720.

There are ways to get the data. I haven't done it, but I do know how. It isn't hard if you are a person who builds your own computers, but it could be difficult for someone who doesn't. There are users groups online that discuss it. It does not bypass any DRM, but I don't know if site admin...

Seriously Dish? Replacing 1080 resolution with 720.

It depends on the compression also. When I watch NFL on my local FOX station(at 720), it is so compressed that the turf looks extremely grainy as the camera pans. You can see some motion blur around the players, but it is is the turf that makes it almost unwatchable to me. The local CBS...

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

The Weather Channel was good 10-15 years ago. Headline News was good 10-15 years ago. TechTV was good 15 years ago. They had niche audiences who actually cared about the programming. Media companies don't care for niche markets, they want to appeal to larger audiences than: People who want...

Braves games on Fox Sports South/SportSouth

I don't believe the contracts have expired. This happened because Dish negotiated a fixed rate with one local station, and a per game rate for Fox. The Braves restructured their TV deals and removed all of the games from the local station. There was an article in the Atlanta paper that...

    Another DISH Football Fight

I agree Dish is being cheap. However, sports is a very large portion of the cost of programming for everyone, not just those who watch sports. Live TV is pretty much only needed for sports and awards shows. People who only want to watch reruns can get that elsewhere. I think the constantly...

New to FTA and need some help.

I am logging off for a while. Those channels are working well on my system, not sure why you are missing that one TP.

Did you try to do a blind scan on Galaxy19?

I was backwards. Yes set it to 10750 and rescan.

New to FTA and need some help.

My guess is that your LNB is set wrong. You probably have a universal LNB, but have the settings in the receiver set to a stnadard LNB. I'm tired and might be thinking backwards, but I believe that would cause the scan to take 1000 extra off of the actual frequency. Also, with that setting...

DISH Beats FOX again in Appeals Court

Good to see. As dfergie pointed out, the court did not address the impact of the Aereo case. The court said: "As this is a preliminary injunction appeal, we review the district court’s decision for abuse of discretion". The court decided that the lower court had not committed any legal...

Fox Pitches Ninth Circuit On Dish Injunction

That is the reason that I have been responding so much in these threads. Laws should be written so that people can understand what is legal and what is not legal. SCOTUS should interpret what the law actually says. In my opinion, SCOTUS made the law more confusing, and did not clarify...

Fox Pitches Ninth Circuit On Dish Injunction

That would not change the fact that Dish owned boxes are transmitting to multiple people at the same time. The court would look to see IF Dish violated the law in any case, not whether they had followed the law in a few cases. If you own a liquor store and sell to minors, it is illegal. If...

Fox Pitches Ninth Circuit On Dish Injunction

My last two posts were from my cellphone while I was busy, I don't think they made much sense, sorry. In Aereo's case, the customer decided where and when content was watched. Aereo did not start or stop any of the streams. SCOTUS decided that since Aereo owns the equipment, they are...

Fox Pitches Ninth Circuit On Dish Injunction

If you make a Visio diagram of dish owned receivers in a box transmitting to customers outside of the Dish owned box, it will look like a cable company. Posted Via The FREE SatelliteGuys Reader App!

Fox Pitches Ninth Circuit On Dish Injunction

In the Aereo case, it was the consumer who decided what and when to watch also. SCOTUS said that Aereo was directly responsible for the transmission, even though the consumer was in control of the equipment. Posted Via The FREE SatelliteGuys Reader App!

Fox Pitches Ninth Circuit On Dish Injunction

Both place and time shifting fall under fair use if the consumer is shifting them. If the court rules that since Dish owns the leased equipment, they are shifting, it might not be fair use. The Aereo ruling was that Aereo was the party transmitting even if the receivers are leased and...

FOX Thinks Aereo = DISH Anywhere

I wish the judicial system had done the right thing and deferred to Congress the responsibility of fixing the Aereo loophole. Most people understand general fairness, and abide by it. Some laws passed by the legislature have been so broad that lawyers and prosecutors can make almost any action...

FOX Thinks Aereo = DISH Anywhere

The problem with that is the secondary transmission begins at the HWS. So it is a secondary transmission, not a primary transmission from Dish to the subscriber. I don't even know for sure if the license from Fox does indeed prohibit a secondary transmission. As far as I know, Dish and Fox...

FOX Thinks Aereo = DISH Anywhere

The big problem is that the SCOTUS basically said in the Aereo decision that the actual text of the law is not important. Dish pays Fox for a license to transmit Fox programming from Dish's facilities to the consumer. According to Fox, they do not have a license for any secondary transmission...

FOX Thinks Aereo = DISH Anywhere

The 922 never was very widely used, and was well before this recent decision. I mentioned in one of the threads that a big difference between HWS and Aereo is that Aereo's equipment was all on property controlled by Aereo. It depends on how the courts look at it. If you draw a map with all of...

FOX Thinks Aereo = DISH Anywhere

According SCOTUS that should solve it. Fox might could make arguments about owned or leased equipment connecting through the DishAnywhere website, but I don't think that would work very well.
