What about apps other than WatchEspn?

For example, TBS has an app that one can authenticate with them, Will Sling TV allow you to do this? Disney? Others?

Sling TV for Free, no subscription cost

Well, it doesn't entirely remove the value of charging for another stream. It's easier to just get it on the tv than mess around with apps, websites, xbmc, etc. so there would still be some value there. I actually expect you will be able to authorize via a Sling TV account, but we'll see. I have...

Sling TV for Free, no subscription cost

If a Sling TV account does allow you to authorize with the content sites, then, this becomes a good value, at least to me. The one stream by itself is hard to swallow for me, but, this would be a way around it. I use XBMC et al to allow access in some rooms, so, can easily use it to watch the...

Sling TV for Free, no subscription cost

So, if one has this new service, I wonder if you can use them to authorize with Watch ESPN, TNT, etc, using Dish as a provider? If so, you can watch ESPN via Sling TV, and, watch ESPN via their app or other methods.

    Sling TV, Watch ESPN?

If you mean the one titled "Sling TV for Free, no subscription cost", not a mention I can find, read the whole thread. I guess I will ask there then.

    Sling TV, Watch ESPN?

I guess as I do not see any? This is a specific question, I see a thread about free sling tv, which I am not interested in. I see a CES thread, which is too many pictures and such.

Cancellation issues, what ifs, and keeping my recorded content

But it DOES. You have to turn on a HDMI attached device to record it, which then it thinks it is ok, and, the output still goes to component video.

Cancellation issues, what ifs, and keeping my recorded content

I've done hundreds if not a thousand such recordings, even from HBO. All sourced from component video of the Hopper. If the program had DD, it still does. They look fantastic.

    Sling TV, Watch ESPN?

I see it is limited to one stream. However, what I have not seen answered yet is will it allow you to run Watch ESPN app and authorize using a Dish account subscribed to Sling TV? If it can, then, you can indeed watch more than one program at once. The same would apply to TNT app, etc. Anyone...

    Hopper Control via IP?

Ok, I can't let such a comment stand uncontested. As a network engineer, I'll take my home network security any day of the week. As should most anyone. To even think there is any comparison to the problem as it exists today, well, no comment. Anyway, don't you think there's just a slight risk...

    Hopper Control via IP?

Actually, I have not decided what I am going to do as any switch is 6 months away as that's when I am moving into new house. Already programmed most of my system, except Dish of course. Discretes are not good enough for me. That being said, right now, I am in "ideal" mode. Part 2 is to analyze...

    Hopper Control via IP?

They do, but that's not what I asked. My post said not DRA. The issue with DRA is it ONLY works with Dish. I have an app/system that works with all equipment, EXCEPT dish. Were Dish IP (or RS232) controllable, one could have a single place that integrates all devices, can switch aspect modes...

    Hopper Control via IP?

Yes, I already said my other devices are controllable. For example, Plex, Pioneer SC-55, Epson Powerline Cinema 5010 projector, etc. Feedback is the most critical component, a HA system can make intelligent choices depending on the state of things and so many operations can be so simple and...

    Hopper Control via IP?

So, it sounds like there is not a Dish solution perhaps. I've been with Dish for close to 10 years I believe. Unfortunately, this is a game killer for me. I have to have network control and feedback of the devices. I've heard DirecTV does, though, not sure how much you can control them. If it...

    Hopper Control via IP?

I don't own a Hopper, yet, am considering it, but, I am looking for a DVR that can be controlled over IP. Near as I can tell, the Hopper can not, not sure of future plans though. Control via IP is important for a home automation system. It's very handy to be able to see what is playing, what...
