    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Problem solved: Now able to access Dish Anywhere from computer Got back from extended travel today and was preparing to try port forwarding. When I checked for firmware updates on my ASUS RT-N66U, upgrading from version 3.0.0.4.240 to version 3.0.0.4.276 solved my Dish Anywhere problem. Thanks...

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Coincidently, the day after my previous post, ASUS itself recommended port forwarding for Hopper: http://support.asus.com.cn/Search/KDetail.aspx?SLanguage=en&no=2B929032-931F-E44D-AF33-1D3C132A08FA&t=2 I'm not in a position to set that up now. Will report the result once I've tried it.

    Any recommendations/warnings about this...? http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Asus/RT-N66U/Dish_Network_Hopper.htm

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Yes, connected only with cables; no WiFi. Yes, rebooted everything: cable modem, router, laptop, Hopper. DHCP is done by router. Cisco cable modem does not have router/DHCP capability.

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Good to know that the video stream stays on the local-area network when possible. Have two kids away at college, and if I can get DishAnywhere to work, they'll probably access it over wide-area network.

Wish I had a retired router to try. Old router stayed with old house. Will see if a friend has router I can borrow. Suggestion that ISP might be doing filtering is interesting. My ISP is not Dish, so I'll have to inquire separately. Wonder how/why an ISP would filter DishAnywhere to laptop but...

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Good point. I never did set up the guest WiFi network. Have tried both Hopper and laptop on 5Ghz network. It attenuates some going up two levels in the house, but signal is good. Right now, I have both Hopper and laptop on the 2.4Ghz network. Laptop says signal strength is 100%. Hopper says...

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Like the suggestions before it, this is a good one, although harder to implement. Router is not easily movable. But I was able to string ethernet cable up two flights of stairs to connect Hopper directly to router. And I then carried the laptop down those stairs to use patch cable to connect...

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

I'm on my second Hopper and I've only had Dish for three months. The first Hopper wouldn't connect to WiFi at all. Second Hopper connects to WiFi and will play video. It just won't connect with DishAnywhere. My laptop runs Win XP. Have replicated the problem with MacBook and with Win 7 desktop...

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

My Asus router is only 3 months old and the firmware is up to date. It's the N standard, so not exotic. (Performance is way better than my old Linksys router, by the way.)

Nothing plugged into USB on Hopper. Hub, printer, and mouse plugged into USB on Windows laptop. Have rebooted laptop, Hopper, router, and cable modem in every sequence imaginable.

Deleted cookies. Removed Sling add-ons. Restarted browser. DishAnywhere.com installed Sling add-on. Restarted browser. DishAnywhere.com failed to connect. Error 31. Ran Dish connectivity test tool. It says machine meets minimum requirements and connectivity is OK.

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

I read that Hopper uses these ports: 80, 443, 5678. Temporarily turned off software firewall on laptop to make sure it wasn't blocking these ports. Temporarily turned off hardware firewall in router. DishAnywhere.com still thinks Hopper is not connected.

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

No static IPs. All devices (Hopper, Windows, Mac, printer, SmartTV) use DHCP.

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

Both Hopper and Windows are on same WiFi network. No wired LAN. Same subnet. Same SSID. Same frequency band. Can ping Hopper from Windows without losing packets. But DishAnywhere.com says Hopper is not connected. Same result with Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome browsers.

    Dish Anywhere over Wi-Fi

DishAnywhere works on Android but not Windows/Mac I have similar problem: 1. DishAnywhere works fine with Android app on smartphone using 4G data plan or using WiFi router to cable modem. So Hopper with Sling can communicate over WiFi through the firewall over the internet to Dish Network. 2...
