    522/625 Software update

Since I posted the above, my 522 is back to the long pause mode. Go figure!

    522/625 Software update

If you push the "menu" button twice on the 522, it will bring up the screen that will show you which software version is currently running. It will probably show "L255" as the current version. Every update seems to produce some obvious changes in the operating characteristics. For a while, it...

    522/625 Software update

We are still showing L255, but the lag in response to remote commands has changed from the protracted delay to the former almost instant. I suspect that updates have been sent, but the serial number has not been changed.

942 Caller ID problem - Still

We have had two 522's, and the caller ID feature has never worked on either, even when we connect to the incoming phone line at the demarc box on the outside of the house. Three phones with caller ID have always worked OK. I guess we don't miss what we never had.

    Strange Pulsating on ABC?

ABC seems to be having more than their share of technical problems, at least around here (Iowa). They range from audio/video sync to the uneven audio level you mention. I suspect that the ongoing conversion to digital may be at fault. Some stations are on reduced power to allow installation...

522 problems, changes channels at random etc.

I don't believe that the networks try to screw up DBS feeds. However, last night I had an annoying audio/video lag on ABC, and thought the 522 was up to its old tricks. Low and behold, when I checked the off the air broadcast it, too, was out of synch! I don't know if it was a network delay...

    Annoying 522 Audio problems

The most common cause of audio problems is a "ground loop" between the receiver and any devices connected to it. This difference in ground potential shows up as noise of one kind or another. As it showed up when using the optical connection, I'd be sure that all units, receiver, TV, amplifier...

People still having audio problems on 522?

We have some minor "lip synch" problems now and then, mostly on local into local channels. The latest software update seems to have lengthened the response time when changing channels, etc. Over all, it is much improved from when we installed the 522 in January. For the first couple of months...

    frustration... please help

Many customers have chosen to drop their land line in favor of wireless (cell). Without the ability of the receiver to "call home", it can't relay PPV data, and the customer will be hit with the fee. Around here (Iowa), we have a very cheap "lifeline" rate that will work.

    Dish 522 TV2 Combined w/ CATV

Usually, you can use a common splitter by running it backward. That is, put the TV2 and CATV on the "out" connections, and feed the set with the input connection. If you have crosstalk, you may need to put a pad on the offending feed. These inline signal reducers are available from most...

    My 522 Hates Desperate Housewives

My 522 hasn't yet reformatted, but it will never record channel 300 (HBO East) on TV2 unless TV1 is also on 300. Otherwise, it shows the "satellite lost" screen, and does not show up as recorded, even though the front panel red light was on. Next time you try to record a troublesome channel...

New customer worried about DVR reliability

We have had the 522 (actually two, since a replacement for a bad box) for almost a year, and overall, it has been OK. The main problem we have is with a couple of channels, namely 300 (HBO main), and 183 (A&E) which tend to lose usuable signal more often than not. Our dish is unobscured and...

What is the difference between "All Episodes" and "New episodes"?

The main problem with selecting "new episodes" is that they are often rebroadcast for several days, and will be selected due to the "flag", thus filling your hard drive with the same stuff. It is a pain, but selecting "one time" saves a whole lot of sifting and deleting.

Extremely New and have Basic Questions

Why aren't you using the second side of the 522 (TV2) in bedroom 3? It is an independent tuner, and will give full access to anything on the DVR. The second receiver can service bedroom 2. If you also want DVR access there, use a distribution amp on the TV2 output. Both bedrooms will have to...

    Dish 625/522 question

When you distribute throughout the house, be sure that the distribution amplifiers have sufficient bandpass. Too often, we find that the existing in-house amp is for lower VHF channels (2-13) and produces a snowy picture on the system. Usually, RG-59 is OK, unless you have very long runs. Then...

    522 Reboots

Are you having "blinks" in your local power? We live in the country, and eliminated much of this kind of problem by using an "uninterruptable power supply" unit intended for computers. It wasn't expensive, and it provides a steady, conditioned AC stream.

Dish 522 thinks there is only one DVR or what? Record Plus culprit?

The recordings are "protected" by a default one minute before and three minute after buffer. If you schedule back-to-back recordings on the same hard drive which are not on the same channel, you will likely lose the second one. You can reduce or eliminate these buffers in the setup program...

    DVR522 recording issue

Greg: This seems to happen more frequently since upgrade 2.54 arrived. Last night, the timer brought up the channel. At least the banner was shown, but there was no audio or video on TV2. After rebooting, it returned to normal. The noise you heard was probably the vent fan. Raising the unit...

    522 Cooling Ideas

We use a computer "muffin fan" to circulate the air in our cabinet where all our electronic are housed. A "fan control" rheostat allows us to reduce fan speed to where the noise is acceptable. If you elevate the 522 about an inch above the surface with a couple of pieces of wood, etc. under the...

DVR-522 gap subsequent to play after pause

The delay showed up after a software "update" a while back.

Are you experiencing problems with your tv2 remote behaving poorly?

When we install with TV2 position more than 20-30 feet from the receiver, we either use the old RG-59, when we run RG-6, or string a new cable for the remote function. Connect the coax to the place where the antenna goes at the receiver, and place a simple "one hole" Radio Shack-type amplifier...

TV2 System Info Screen on 522

Since 2.54 arrived, we often find the "signal lost" screen on TV2 when the timer fires. Oddly, if we call up the channel selected for recording on TV2 on TV1, the "lost" signal" reappears on TV2. When we recall the original TV1 channel, TV2 then loses the channel, and again displays the...

TV2 System Info Screen on 522

Couldn't have said it better! Software L2.53 has virtually destroyed the reliability of the DVR timer in exactly the manner you have outlined. When we installed the 522 last January, it was almost unviewable due to audio lag. Since then, that problem has been almost erased, but subsequent...

    2.53 Returns Old Problems!!!!

I haven't had those kinds of problems with 2.53, but it sure didn't cure, and may have aggravated, the timer skip and info screen problems.

DVR522 L253 Timer with New option problems.

If the show is flagged "new" more than once a day, it will record those, too. I just bring them up, use "info" to see if there are, in fact, new. If duplicated, I just delete them. I figure it is better to have two of the same, rather than none of any. If the box pulls the old "info screen"...
