Looking MPEG4 receiver that can do tones used or new

Brian's Q is important: Are there actually tones on an audio PID, or does it rely on the receiver to handle DPI triggers and then generate tones based on those.

Keeping Dish receiver on in commercial setting

I can confirm that I have a bunch of 211k that run 24/7 without requiring a visit. I'd swap, return the z and recoup the modulator.

    Observations on quality

I did a study of OTA vs a local cable provider on Fox stations for the game. Was interesting to see that some had higher bitrate OTA (squashed by cableco) vs higher bit off cable (presumed beefier fiber feed than afforded to OTA transmitter)

... just lost KFWD in Dallas this am. MundoMAX -> SonLife. I see rabbitears is already updated. :)

First Again WRAL Launches ATSC 3.0 Service

No, unfortunately if WVLA33 (RF34) moves to low-VHF, that constitutes a large frequency shift and there really isn't a way for you to tell right now. You could maybe guess, based on how well you recv WAFB... but it's still really just a guess.

First Again WRAL Launches ATSC 3.0 Service

Ya, that's Roxborough. Almost all the towers are there. They aren't moving I'm pretty sure.

    16 Way Splitter

Quintech makes some, but they're rack mount and pricey

Are we really losing up to UHF channel 30?

You'd most likely have to upgrade your receiver for any coming coding/modulation enhancements regardless of ATSC3. If the ATSC3 stations use HEVC, etc... they have to get the fronthauls to the stations somehow and most likely using the newer formats which your current receiver doesn't understand...

    AMC-11 Handgrenading?

What's weird is that two other major parents are moving their feeds over to AMC-11 by July/Aug. I wonder what Comcast's beef is with the "reliability of AMC-11"

    Interesting Video on ATSC 3.0

No, you're right; they won't care about that stuff. By enhancements, I meant HDR, 4k, mobile/SFN improvements or the accessory enhancements (second-screen, etc). And it will not be all at once or in that order. Which one will be the "killer app" You make a good point about what will force them...

    Interesting Video on ATSC 3.0

Might be better to use the lighthouse to guide users to 3.0.... Use the efficiencies of 3.0 for the enhanced .1 channels of the stations that share nice together (possibly). You won't be able to share much mpeg2 crap on single frequency using 1.0

    Interesting Video on ATSC 3.0

Once it hits your gateway or TV it will probably know somewhat about you. The intelligence in the signal will then decide based on your Big Data. Meh, you can run but you can't hide. If it's not this, it will be bannering, in-show promos, or whatever it takes to make you watch.

Solid Signal now has Televes antennas! Mine is on the way

In the past two years, they've become one of our go-to faves for several commercial applications. I'd second that recommendation.

Digital OTA TV Dongle for USA Reception on a Laptop

Probably not ,much difference. 5 yrs isn't that old in the scheme of 8VSB tuners. Maybe on the cusp of some multipath enhancements but you'll likely improve reception by focusing on other things. Also, linux support on the Hauppauge products has improved tremendously, if you haven't looked...

    Improper Dish Cleaning Method

Those expensive RoofRakes make even a 5m dish a piece o cake. (relative to any other manual way of clearing) Not too hard to homebrew, but make sure the wife doesn't treat the dish like a piñata... Agree with Cat though: need to make something contoured
