What are YOU doing this fall?

This was definitely a live login. I searched a couple of NAS drives to see if any of my old files had survived the transition to the newer servers. I found some of them, including my original network design files. I was even able to see that one of the NAS RAID 5's is using a hot spare. Password...

What are YOU doing this fall?

Yesterday I was looking through the hard drive I'll be cleaning out on an old desktop PC I'll be dropping off at the local electronics recycling bin. When I ran across my old login to the corporate servers where I used to work, I was amazed to find out after 20 years retired that it still...

What do YOU prefer? 1000.2 or 1000.4

The YTTV system works fine for the majority of the programming we want to save. We haven't missed our H2's at all this year.

What do YOU prefer? 1000.2 or 1000.4

It took us about a month to get comfortable with streaming compared to Dish, but the savings only took a minute to get used to. ;)

What do YOU prefer? 1000.2 or 1000.4

When we were traveling RV'ers, I sometimes set up our tripod mounted 1K4 as often as daily. It became just another 10-15 minute part of our routine site setup. Now that we're streaming everything, I almost miss doing that. Almost...

Cokes were still a nickel in the machines when I started high school in 1958. The next year they started going up as newer coin mechanisms and machines were introduced.

Get ready to fall back, 2025

Yep, coming back from Europe or Asia was always a bigger transition than DST. Oddly, east/west coast US transitions affected me a lot less. Maybe the ocean flights had better movies and I didn't sleep as much. :)

Get ready to fall back, 2025

I'm all for sticking to one time standard year round, with no preference for standard or DST. Actually, since all but one of our clocks (the microwave) change automatically now, I don't even mind the change that much. I just adjust my going to bed time by half an hour the night of the change...

Get ready to fall back, 2025

Sunset here last night was at exactly 6 pm. Without DST it would have been 5 pm.

    Satellite Capacity, Picture Quality

The location meant more than the signal strength as bad weather passed by. When one sat went out, the other kept working many times. I'm more than old enough to remember when we used to watch snowy black and white programs, so SD really doesn't bother me. Living in our motorhome pretty much...

    Satellite Capacity, Picture Quality

Since much of the SD programming was on a different satellite than HD, when weather issues affected HD, the drop to SD was better than no programming at all.

There could be some significant changes to DBS by 2028 due to the lose of subscribers. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. A Dish/DTV merger could also change a lot of things.

I expect it will launch, although Echostar might have some changes made before then to repurpose it if the Dish requirement goes away.

    Fear of Poles

That's what the contractor did that installed our Hughes 15' solid dish years ago. They also added a 3 point cable anchor system for increased wind resistance, but a smaller mesh dish shouldn't need that.

    satellite signals

On re-reading your post, since you have a hybrid twin LNBF, you were only seeing the 61.5 and 72.7 sats. I think you're confusing the transponder listings with the sat listings.

    satellite signals

Most likely your dish needs to be peaked up. First, I would make sure the pole is completely plumb, truing it up as needed. Then, if still needed, I'd suggest gently pulling/pushing on the top and then the side of the dish while someone watches the signal level. Note any changes for the better...

EA can use either dish with the correct LNBF. After the 77 sat access went away, I was using a 1000.4 with a 1000.2 EA LNBF.

Do people still watch satellite TV these days

I wonder what the percentage is for the number of customers that have to interact with DTV CS. With Dish, the only time I contacted them after my initial equipment activations were chat sessions to change my locals before the app had that feature.

    Fear of Poles

Dig down to the solid granite, drill anchor holes with a diamond bit, and epoxy/cement threaded rods in the holes. Spin nuts and washers down far enough to allow the rods to stick up through the base plate a couple of inches. Set the base plate in place and use the bottom nuts to level it...

Do people still watch satellite TV these days

FireTV's and FireTVsticks have been around since 2014. "Live" is a menu item on the FireTV series home page. It's one of the reasons I prefer FireTVsticks over Roku.

Do people still watch satellite TV these days

You didn't read my post I guess. The Firestick "Live" feature brings the listings for multiple apps into one listing, similar to cable and satellite.

    Satellite Capacity, Picture Quality

I understand Dish has another satellite on order, although I don't know the expected launch date or intended location. Also, I don't have a current list, but Dish typically has more than one satellite at a given location, making capacity less of an issue. The 129 slot isn't likely to be used...

Do people still watch satellite TV these days

Yes, it's very similar to cable/sat listings. At a lower price of course... ;)
