    I tried it out with my original settings using HDMI from recorder to TV, RCA cords from receiver to recorder, HDMI from receiver to TV & it works perfectly with the TV either on or off! Thanks again!

    BINGO! You get the gold star Jim, I looked & found that setting under tv enhancements! Thank You! The setting is for allowing recording to a external device, either on or off! I appreciate all the comments on here from people willing to help!

    Yes I have a HDMI hooked from receiver to TV! I have RCA red, white & yellow hooked to recorder.

    Yes, originally! Actually I can record using my recorder with 211K receiver but only if the TV in on! Turn TV off & it won't work! I tried explaining that to the Dish tect over the phone but he couldn't believe it! I hate to leave TV on all the time, especially when we're not home!
