    Dish Network or Comcast

    Where are you? Someone from your Comcast market will have to answer for your situation. In Salt Lake the HD picture quality is as good as it gets - Comcast in Salt Lake passes the MPEG video unmolested. Dish Network and DirecTV have been lowering the PQ to make room for more light-weight...

    New install, lousy picture

    You have just happened onto my biggest bitch.... 100% Digital Quality means 100% nothing. Digital doesn't mean better or even good... It just depends on how it is used. In the world of digital TV, with maybe with the exception of HD, 'Digital' means the picture looks like what you are...

    MonsterPower and the DVR 921

    Thanks Dave - I'm always curious when someone says their picture is improved by installing devices like these. I just don't see the science behind these. Its like the $400 power cords you buy for high end audio... Putting a surge protector on your satellite feeds simply just can't...

    I can't believe it but I switched back to cable..and I'm happy.

    In Salt Lake DirecTV over-compresses 14 channels so they will fit on one transponder. I'll never be able to see if the local broadcasters are sending crap to DirecTV because DirecTV isn't going to add more bandwidth to a small market like Salt Lake. I guess we'll never know!

    I can't believe it but I switched back to cable..and I'm happy.

    Wow, that's a new one. Why is this? Are you saying that my nasty DirecTV locals are not because DirecTV is cramming them all on one transponder? The real reason is that the all my local TV stations got together to screw DirecTV for some reason? Why do my local broadcasters like Comcast...

    I can't believe it but I switched back to cable..and I'm happy.

    My analog channels from Comcast are better than the 100% Digital quality local channels I receive from DirecTV by far. I can't watch the Salt Lake locals from DirecTV on my big screen TV's... I can only stand it on the 14" TV I have in my office (mostly because I don't look at it!). The...

    Comcast compromises on vanishing Dishnetwork satellite equipment

    How so? I have Comcast and DirecTV and used to have Dish Network. If I had to choose only one them it would be Comcast. That's not to say they don't have problems but they all do. I would choose Comcast because I can get more HDTV from Comcast and its real HD not the dumbed down so...

    Charlie Chat Tonight!

    I wouldn't worry much about Dish switching to MPEG4 and obsoleting their current HD receivers... It will be years before Dish can pull something like that off. Look at the 921 as a good example... Wasn't it nearly 3 years from the time they announced the 921 to when people could actually...

    Comcast compromises on vanishing Dishnetwork satellite equipment

    I agree that Comcast would have made her pay (as they should)... But you're not suggesting that if the situation was reversed that Dish Network would have credited her account the $383.63 are you? After my dealings with Dish Network I can't imagine they would do anything more than tell her she...

    Comcast compromises on vanishing Dishnetwork satellite equipment

    When I made the switch to Comcast - and received a discount because I gave them my receiver - they made it very clear what the deal was. Both in the form that I signed and verbally (over the phone when I ordered and at installation) they made sure that I owned the equipment and that I...

    D* dominating

    I'm not sure I'd say that the 921 was first to the market... I realize that technically the first 921 was shipped before the first HD Tivo but... I was on one waiting list for the the 921 for nearly a year, a second list for about 5 months before I gave up and switched to DirecTV and the HD...

    D* dominating

    The HD Tivo has had and still does have some problems - mostly with HDMI port failure and some issues with Dolby Digital and certain receivers. But - anyone that doesn't work for Dish Network, has used both the 921 and the HD Tivo and then says the 921 is more advanced is delirious! :D...

    DISH discontinuing 921?

    What advantage does the 921 have over the HD Tivo? The only reason I would have gone with the 921 is because Dish had better HDTV picture quality. Now they have watered down the PQ I can't think of why I would want one. Possible 921 advantages: +Speed - HD Tivo is too damn slow +UHF...

    Dish to air controversial documentarys

    I'd like to see both of these so called documentaries - "Stolen Honor: Wounds that Never Heal" and "Fahrenheit 9/11". For those of you that have seen them is there any truth in either? My biggest concerns are the way Bush supporters can just ignore how much money Cheney-Halliburton are...

    TNT, FOX, Other HD ... {RANT}

    I have a few types of displays and receivers..... 19" TV, 27" high end TV, 55" Cheap-o HDTV, 70" Cheap LCD bulb projector and a 100" high end CRT projector. I wouldn't say ANY of the SD channels from DirecTV on any of these display devices look "GREAT". The best SD channels look OK or maybe...

    TNT, FOX, Other HD ... {RANT}

    Tweaking your dish will not improve your picture even in the smallest amount. Because you are dealing with digital video you either get it or you don't. There is a small place right between where you get and you where you don't that will give you picture drop outs and pixelating. Unless you...

    TNT, FOX, Other HD ... {RANT}

    I have both Comcast Cable (analog and digital) and at least for another few weeks DirecTV. I wouldn't say cable sucks (in my area anyway). The analog channels are channels are most definitely easier to look at. They may have some of the usual analog issues but the picture is a lot easier...

    Will you be keeping the HD pack if no more channels are added afer the free 6 months

    I did call them.... Apparently I'm the first and only one to complain. I was also the first and only person to have problems with the audio on HDNet with my HD Tivo, the first and only person to Dolby Digital problems with the HD Tivo and the first and only person to notice the PQ of the Salt...

    Will you be keeping the HD pack if no more channels are added afer the free 6 months

    Where will the bandwidth for these added channels come from? Unless they have some secret that no one knows about it will mean more of 3 channels per transponder. No such thing as a free lunch.... You either have to give up real HDTV or get more of HD Like TV. My vote is to not add ANY so...

    Disappointed new subscriber – Poor SD quality

    If you believe this..... True Digital Quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To qualify ourselves as " 100% digital quality picture " and " CD quality sound " we must provide no fewer than 400 lines COMPRESSED, up to 512 lines...

    Disappointed new subscriber – Poor SD quality

    Oh no! Not the 400+ lines of resolution on every channel again! :) DirecTV/Dish Network/Voom/Digital Cable have never really had 400+ lines... They all use way to much compression to get even close to ACTUAL 400 lines. There is no way for even the best HDTV to make over-compressed bad...

    so its been what.. about a week now...

    Looks like DirecTV is the best provider for you - I'll have to vote for you! I'll see if I can dump DirecTV twice! I consider myself very lucky to have a choice for REAL HDTV. I'd have a to make a very painful decision on HDTV or not if I were in your shoes.

    so its been what.. about a week now...

    I agree with you here - didn't you just tell me it was my fault that they won't be adding more new channels? I don't hate DirecTV - I just want HDTV to remain HDTV. DirecTV's so called HD is not in the same category as Comcast is so I voted with my wallet. I'm not just talking about HDNet...
