    New 921 owner with questions

You can tune directly to local stations, but must enter the number in a complete format. For channel 4, my 921 will accept 004 or 00401. Both will result in channel 4-1. If you want 4-2, then you need to enter 00402. I seldom use other subchannels so three digits normally takes care of most...

I've About Had It With My 721...

I have heard many others say they are happy with their 721s now. Remember I have only had it about a year. I did hear it was buggy when first released, but I find it to be very stable now. Do you still get missed recordings with the last couple of software releases?

I've About Had It With My 721...

I have had my 721 a little less than a year. It is my most dependable receiver. I often use it to backup stuff I program on my 921 in case the 921 misses a recording. I don't think I ever missed one with the 721. I just wish it could get HD. :)

oh where, oh where is the 942?

They acknowledged on the Charlie Chat that the 942 will be in very short supply initially. I think those units will be dedicated to new customers. When the supply increases, I believe they will be available to anyone willing to meet Dish's price.

oh where, oh where is the 942?

In one of the earlier chats they said it would be available in February 2005. Whoops they missed that. Word has been that it was delayed until March. They haven't yet missed that, but it could happen with Dish. Certainly they want it out as soon as they can, but even Dish doesn't want big...

    Any Dish Network DVR deals?

Assuming you have been a customer for a year or more, I would think you are surely eligible for some of the upgrades. Go to the disnetwork.com site, enter your user name and password. When logged in, you should be able to check for product upgrades that you can qualify for.

    522 Noise

While you are discussing the noise produced by the 522, could you tell me if there is a continuously running fan a la the 921? The 501 is very quiet when in standby, is the 522 the same way?

921 Back for sale at Costco. Very limited!

Most of the HD I record is OTA at the moment. An HD DVR for $500 doesn't sound bad. I paid much more for mine. Dish "said" (I realize how little that means.) that the MPEG4 would initially be used for new HD content. I think that may mean that existing HD content will not be switched for...

Just Got my Dish HD System Package it is not that bad so far

You should be able to record two satellite HD programs at a time or one satellite and one OTA. It is correct that you cannot do two OTA recordings at a time. As you get more familiar with the 921, I think you will enjoy it more.

what switch do i need and where to buy?

Check before you buy. Many 921s do not contain free install certs. Mine did not (purchased before price break), but I had everything I needed so I did not care. Everyone has been saying that Costco boxes have them, if your Costco has 921s. Many do not.

First Look: Dish 942 HD/SD Receiver (Updated 1/24/05)

The movie industry lobby is strongly against any type of archiving of HD content. Unless they are defeated or a compromise is reached, it will not be easy or legal.

    Locals in HD

Unless some big surprises occur, there will not be HD locals available on Dish anytime soon. Every HD channel takes 7-8 times the bandwidth of SD. There just isn't enough space available. Despite the recent sales, not that many accounts have HD receivers, yet.

    DISH discontinuing 921?

I purchased the 921 on the $839 deal. I would have been thrilled to get it for $549. I have had a 721 for about six months and love it. I was hardly using my 811 because it forced me to watch the HD live. I know the 921 software resembles the older 721, but that is fine with me. As soon as...

First Look: Dish 942 HD/SD Receiver (Updated 1/24/05)

I have ordered one of the $839 921s so I hope I made the right decision. I believe the 921 has dual HD tuners so you can record two HD programs. The 942 has one HD and one SD tuner limiting you to one HD recording at a time. If this is correct, it would be considered a downgrade in my book to...

921 group buy for $839--where did it go?

You are right about the $839. I will try to correct the thread, we even got a response from the source. Claude, thanks for the update. It sounds like a good deal.

921 group buy for $839--where did it go?

Recently there was an announcement about purchasing a 921 through Claude at the Dishstore for $839 with free shipping. I can't seem to find that thread. I had a shortcut saved to it, but it is no longer working. What happened? Is the offer still good?

811 with or without HD package

Unless the 811 is your only receiver, there is always a $5 ($4.98?) charge for an extra receiver. I think in the case of a lease this fee covers both. If that is correct, you only really have the HD pack charges for a year that are extra. Even if you buy the receiver on eBay, you will have to...

811 with or without HD package

Thanks for the information. If the HD recorders get more affordable and dependable, I would be interested in upgrading a receiver. As mentioned earlier, I just don't see a lot to offer in the current E* HD pack. Thanks again.

811 with or without HD package

I have had my 811 nearly one year with the HD package. I seldom watch the few stations in that package. Most of the HD I watch is over the air. I have the HBO package and currently receive HBOHD. If I drop the HD package, will I still get HBOHD? I assume there would be no more difficulty in...

    P268 is here!

Will a vcr timer work with the 811 turned off? Currently the 811 has to be on or you only get a black screen.

How to add a 5th Receiver

SimpleSimon and bcshields, thank you for the information. It just shows again how, although well-meaning, Dish CSRs can give you expensive disinformation. Thanks again. Ed R

How to add a 5th Receiver

Two different CSRs in the tech group of Dish told me that you can't run two lines from a quad (DishPro) to a DP34. They told me the quad must be replaced with twin. The lines of the twin go to a DP34 and then a second DP34 is cascaded for the extra lines. Has anyone actually run two lines...

    721/821 connection issues

Thanks everyone for all the good information. While it was not what I hoped to hear, it will save me a lot of problems. I plan to get a DP34 switch. Then I will either install it or more likely have someone else do it. Thanks again.

    721/821 connection issues

The other receiver is the 811. There are two receivers in the other room using both of those connections. What happens if a signal splitter is used? No signal on either receiver? Weak signal? Interference? If the splitter idea cannot work, will the 721 work with only one line hooked up?

    721/821 connection issues

I have an HDTV in one room and a smaller regular TV in another room. Both rooms have two lines each, coming from my satellite dish. I believe it is a quad LNB. I have two receivers in each room. In the room with the HDTV I have an 811. I also want to connect my new 721 up to the HDTV. What...
