The rec never turns off, you can restart the rec and put it in standby mode but i does not turn off ever! It is always on to record your shows, even in standby.

usb ports on all tivo rec are supposed to be locked, from what i understand there is a possibility the they were unlocked witht he recent upgrade, which the R10 did not get, and it was version 6.1 not 6.2, I have two tivos and have yet to try.i tend to agree with neutron.

No...the dvr updates come from a land based phone line, the serial ports are for uplinknig to your comp.

the R10 already has the upgrade installed, it will not be getting the upgrade, also the upgrade will come through the phone line.

You have to keep you dvr connected to a phone line for scheduled service updates including the 2 week program guide. You get the standard program guide from the satellite but you get the extended program guide along with the tivo features through your phone line.

all hd rec will be replaced for free to comply with the mpeg 4, they will do this when its available in your area.

also just to let you know there are about 6 ghost transponders that either get high signal or no signal, the general consensus needs to be 70 or above, just because one transponder is high means nothing, transponders transmit certain channels so all need to be coming in except for the ghost...

if you're only getting your locals then i am assuming you live in a 119 local area, hey usually get better reception than the 101, check transponders 1 and 2 on the 101 signal meter and then if you do get the 119 (if you have an OVAL3 dish) check the signals for 26 and 27, all signals need to be...

if you're getting only half of the channels then you are only getting the odd or the even transpnders, if the problem is not the rec then the roblem is the cabling, switch or lnb depending on your setup.

I know what it is....The people who have the problem are using HDMI connections for their rec, the people not having the problems are using the component PBR cables. There is a flaw with the HDMI design. This problem also affect H10's.

I was surprised that they made the super fan a additional package for getting HD st games, however, there are some other features with the super fan package than just hd....the normal price for this package is $99 so the $49 price is good.
