Is This An Acceptable Spot To Mount A Dish?(pic attached)

I decided to "split the difference" and chop nearly a foot off the plank. So now my rise above the overhang is just a bit over 1 ft. Seems pretty stable and "wiggle-proof". If need be, I guess I can always chop the rest off later and reinstall/realign the dish.

Is This An Acceptable Spot To Mount A Dish?(pic attached)

Well no, not as it relates to the satellite. But that extra two feet gives me an extra year's growth on the pine tree that the dish points above :) All things being equal, I'd rather have to move the dish in 6 years than in 5.

Is This An Acceptable Spot To Mount A Dish?(pic attached)

Well, because of the angle to the satellite, putting the dish near where the overhang meets the house is not an option. And since this install will be done by an installer(not me), I'm a little hesitant to let anyone go drilling into the roof. I could probably get by with just cutting off...

Is This An Acceptable Spot To Mount A Dish?(pic attached)

Hey bill, Did you have it mounted the way I do here? Note that only the top two-feet of the board are free-standing. The rest is securely bolted to the overhang's post.

Is This An Acceptable Spot To Mount A Dish?(pic attached)

Well keep in mind that this is not actually the house's roof, just a one story overhang built onto the back(for storing lawnmowers under, etc.) The house is two stories, so it will be blocking the wind completely on one side. I'm not so much worried about the wind snapping the board. I'm more...

Is This An Acceptable Spot To Mount A Dish?(pic attached)

I'm having the dish installed on Wednesday, and in preparation, I decided to attach a 2x6 to an overhang on the back for mounting. Will this be okay? Or will that 2ft of "extra" 2x6 make the dish too wobbly. I was thinking that the dish could be mounted at the top of the board.

Getting Directv Installed on Wednesday: A Couple of Questions

Guess my post was pretty transparent: I want to see Braves games :) I think their current TV schedule is: approximately 2 games a week on TurnerSouth, 2 games a week on TBS, and 1 game a week on Fox Sports South(always on Wednesday). Of course this varies on weeks when there are fewer games...

"Roll Your Own" Dish Network: Is It Possible?

I can't really see Dish doing this much detective work though... They have no way of knowing what state you were born in, nor what the group number was at the time. oberon's post that a credit check can be run from just a name and address is a bit alarming though. That means that pretty much...

    Dish Service Sux

You know, this is actually a pretty important consideration for those with tall trees in their yard. Indeed, the Directv satellite is about 7° higher than the Dish Network one here in Alabama. For me, that difference was enough to clear two tall pine trees by 20 ft or so.

Getting Directv Installed on Wednesday: A Couple of Questions

Hello all, I'm having DirecTV installed on Wednesday and I have a couple of questions(forgot to ask when I scheduled the install :( ) 1. Does the installer usually call and do the activation with Direc? Or will I do it? 2. I'm confused about whether Fox Sports South will be included with...

"Roll Your Own" Dish Network: Is It Possible?

"Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not after you" ;) . Have you been watching/reading the news lately? Identity theft rates are on the rise. Maybe you didn't see that story on 20/20 about the woman whose identity was stolen and the thief used it to commit MASSIVE credit...

"Roll Your Own" Dish Network: Is It Possible?

I've looked all over, but I can't seem to find any evidence that they can get your whole social security number from just the last four digits. :what From what I've read, when the last four digits are required, it's usually just to keep your name separate in their records(for example, in case...

"Roll Your Own" Dish Network: Is It Possible?

...Now I'm more confused than ever :( Why would they need SS# for billing? Don't they keep a credit card number on file(in case of a deadbeat customer)? bcshields-This is what I had heard. It was my understanding that they wouldn't even ask for my SS# if I owned my own equipment. So... I...

"Roll Your Own" Dish Network: Is It Possible?

Hi guys, GREAT forum here. I've really got alot of great info from reading through your posts. I was planning on getting Dish, but was disappointed to learn that a Social Security number was required when signing up. I'm just a bit too paranoid about identity theft to give out my SS# to...

Yes or No, Do I have to give SSN to Dishnetwork?

Doh! So there's no way around the SS# requirement? I have never had an account with Dish Network, debts, channel blocks etc., but this is a deal-breaker for me. With the recent explosion of identity theft, there's just no way I'm trusting Dish Network with my SS#. ...Dish can't even get...
