    External Hard Drive Q

I had a problem moving my HD from my 622 to 722k. Dish Tech Support said they were not compatible. NOT TRUE! If you have trouble (e.g. a pop-up message asking you to reformat, say NO!), ask them to resend your authorization to your HD. If they ask for the error number, give them 787, which...

722K users - picture quality compared to 722/622?

A non-technical person in my house commented last night on how much sharper and better the colors were on the Jay Leno show (comes in high definition over the air). So, I think there is definitely better picture "processing" on the 722k than the 622. I've noticed it myself too.

722K users - picture quality compared to 722/622?

My informal observation is that the 722k does have better PQ than the 622. The menus are a little sharper looking too. (Strange!)

Moving an external drive from a 622 to a 722

By the way, I learned the 3 digit error code for a receiver that has not yet been "authorized for EHD" is 787. :) Okay, moving on, I got my re-hit last night and am GREATLY pleased to report the hard drives can now move back and forth between the 722k and 622 with no loss of data!! Many...

Moving an external drive from a 622 to a 722

Sorry, I am not challenging bobr66, just relaying my experiences. I called last night and asked the technician to resend the EHD authorization. The tech wouldn't do it just on my say so. He insisted it only needed to be done if there was an error on the screen and I would have to read to him...

Moving an external drive from a 622 to a 722

bobr66 -- my household key is already the same on both receivers (622 and 722k). I'll ask tonight for a rehit. But two different tech support techs have told me the 722k cannot use hard drives that were used on the 622 without reformatting them. ?!??!?!

Moving an external drive from a 622 to a 722

I guess the 622 and 722 use the same software. Unfortunately the 722k has different software. You can go from the 722k to the 622 without losing your recordings, but you can no longer use that hard drive with the 722k. But you cannot go from the 622 to the 722k unfortunately, which is a much...

There is a way to make copy's from ext hard drive back to your 622

Guess I'm missing something here, but what's the benefit of having two copies, one on your HD and one on the 622 itself?

    "Move address"

So, if you live in Los Angeles, can you get HD locals for any other areas? Especially in an earlier time zone?

    Loss of closed captions

I have had this problem too. Especially weird would be seeing closed captions bleedthrough on TV1 while the screen saver logo was moving around the screen. It would go away when turning on TV1, but then they're be no more captioning at all. A reboot fixes it for a while before it starts...

Need help decoding TP / spotbeams

Looking at the New York channels, I see they're mostly on 119 T20 or 1s13 and 110 TP20s4. I've looked at the spot beam maps on ekg.dbstalk.com, but still can't figure it out. Are the New York channels on national footprint or are they spotbeamed only to be received in the physical New York...

Why so little Closed Captioning on HD

I think it's something to do with Dish's retransmission of the HD locals. The over the air HD channels have CC when they say they do, but the satellite equivalents of the local HD channels do not retransmit the CC properly. I'm in the Los Angeles area.

    ViP 622 & 722 Running Bug Thread

Mark, are you seeing captions on your high definition dish locals? (Not the over the air locals, but the dish retransmitted ones.) I don't see them on any high definition dish locals in the 63xx range nor the CBS High Definition channel out of New York, even though the program is listed as...

    Local HD Channel #'s

I'm curious too about this ... can you still get separately your locals HD over the air, e.g. 2-1, 4-1, 7-1, 11-1 in Los Angeles *AND* the satellite HDs with the same channel numbers? On the 622, you can record three programs at once (2 satellite and one OTA). I'm curious whether I can keep...

    Will I lose CBS-HD-NY?

I have a 110/119/61.5 setup in Los Angeles. They gave me the CBS-HD channel from New York since I don't have the 129 satellite to get the L.A. high def channel. I can get LA high def over the air, but I like getting the New York channel because it is time shifted 3 hrs earlier. It's handy...

Dish 942 L280 Software Bug Reports

Recording three programs? I haven't been able to figure this out ... sometimes I can record three programs (two Dish tuners and one OTA high-definition tuner). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The trick seems to be putting the 1st program on tuner 2, the 2nd on tuner 1, and then the...
