    When it goes black if you hook it up to an external monitor and it works its not the video card. Then screen would be probable issue. If not video on motherboard is bad and it time to upgrade.

    go out and download a later version of hirens boot disk. go to dos boot,hdd tools. There are a number of tools for chesking nearly all aspects of your computer. The download is free and the disk is an iso, bootable.

    Is WinXP done after January 2008?

    I have nearly 20 years in IT. All the stop supporting XP means that Microsoft will no longer offer updates anymore. So if they find additional holes or security issues they wont fix them. Vista sucks so XP users will be around for a long time to come. Its all sales crap by Billy to make money.
