    Do you have a compass/ You need to point your dish in the general direction of the satellites first. I setup my system at home myself, took a little time, but its not hard to do if you're patient. Type in your zip code on setup screen, and point dish in general direction listed on TV screen...

    Is it possible to set your receiver up near the dish and see if it works there before the 100ft of cable? That would help determine if its wire or LNB.

    Not too sure about the Ebay route, I thought almost all of direcTV's receivers were leased, taking much of any advantage away from getting it on Ebay. Also, DirecTV would then still own the receiver you just "bought".
