Successful Launch and deployment of SXM-7

The 3-satellite Sirius constellation was shut down years ago. Now it's just the two geostationary satellites. In future years Sirius will be shut down and XM will use all four geostationary satellites, each of which were designed to support the entire bandwidth used by both Sirius and XM.

Waste of time and money. When I renewed my XM sub, I deleted the "All Access" and haven't gone back.

    Alphastar satellite dishes after termination

The AlphaStar dish is very well suited for Ku-band. My first encounter with AlphaStar was an FTA receiver tuned to receive Chinese programming and GlobalStar in the 1990s and 2000s.

Adapter to use Stratus 7 with old Sportster Boombox/Exec Dock?

The newest boombox seems to work with both the old Sirius radios and XM radios. I tested it and was pleasantly surprised, though there is no real reason to bother with the Sirius side with its blotchy audio quality. I got it from one of the online stores bundled with a receiver for a little...

Looks like the HEO satellites are done

Looks like the HEO satellites are done. The date has passed (set in 2008) to decommission them. Sirius FM-5 and FM-6 are co-located with XM-5 and XM-6, respectively. Sirius FM-5 was supposed to hang around 96 degrees but they changed their mind for some reason. Anyone notice a reduction in...

WTF! Almost $600 a year for XM!

I used to have lots of family plan radios. Now I just have one plug-and-play radio that I carry around wherever I go, and the Internet Smartphone App add-on to use where the satellite signal doesn't work. At home I also use the internet radio on a PC with an FM transmitter for around-the-house...

Tech Spec Differences Between Sirius and XM (and new satellite)

The Sirius repeaters tuned to a Ku-band transponder on AMC-16 and rebroadcast them. The XM repeaters took two of the four transponders from one (or both) of the XM 85-degree or 115-degree satellite and rebroadcast them. It's arguable to say which system was more elegant, but the XM system was...

    Clear Channel Stations Leaving XM

The talk stations were moved to really out-of-the-way channel numbers recently. It's a good thing for the XM network to finally get that "up to 410 kbps" of bandwidth back from Clear Channel. I wouldn't be too excited about additional channels unless you have one of the newest radios that...

    XM reception very bad

There may be one of two problems happening: Antenna quality or signal coverage changes. XM and Sirius antennae have linear amplifiers inside them that slowly wear out over time. If you're still under warranty ask the dealer to take a look. If they want to charge money for the repair consider...

    DISH Launches dishNET Broadband

    Thanks JSheridan, that explains it.

    Hughesnet satellite internet

Voice over IP (VoIP) is actively being used on Exede and even original WildBlue. It works. The compression makes up for some of the delay, if you can believe it. It's hard to describe but the voice delay is not much more than that of a cell phone.

    DISH Launches dishNET Broadband

Why do people think Exede and Hughesnet are going to be the same? Sure, they use the same reflector and different TRIAs and modems. This dealer sounds like they are selling both Exede and Hughesnet services and are economizing on their inventory. I don't understand how it makes sense that...

Please turn off the meta-refresh feature

Please turn off the meta-refresh feature. It's killing this web site. I know you want more ad impressions and all that, but this isn't how you do it. It makes the forum nearly impossible to read.

    Dish Reflectors - non-metal?

I'm very suspicous of this. It's usually embedded inside the plastic of the dish. I own a couple of this kind of dishes. I would think any sort of paint coating would not work reliably and it would be embedded, instead.

Worn out after about five years

Well, my linear LNB wore out after a faithful five years. I don't have a bad thing to say but I do like these ultra-miniature LNBs from Glorystar a.k.a. SatelliteAV. Five years seems a reasonable lifetime for this sort of thing. The circular LNBs also met a similar fate. It could be my...

    Need help with motorized FTA

If you're using an off-brand or cloned H-H motor the metal mounting brackets may be soft or stamped incorrectly. I peak at east, west, and true south. It will take a while to get it right. The tricky part is to get the elevation of the dish and the motor set up correctly. The article that...

    Identify UBL's satellite receiver

What kind of satellite receiver is UBL using? You can see blurry on-screen menus and a blurry shot of the unit. Pentagon releases videos of Osama bin Laden I'm still a little puzzled why anyone takes a home video of someone watching television.

GSM Radio Interference: How do you Fight it?

In most areas, AT&T uses 850 MHz GSM and they cause very loud zgh-zgh-zgh noises. In areas where they use 1900 MHz it's very quiet. I consider it more of an advantage because those cell phone providers who have 850 MHz coverage have superior coverage. A while ago there had been some white...

    PS3 security broken for good?

The thing is this: at any time you purchase a new game, or get a copy of a new game, and it contains code to check the status of the machine, the risk of your machine being "bricked" by Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft increases. Inside the processor package of PS3, XBOX 360, and Nintendo Wii, are...

    G15 troubles

I can't believe it woke up finally. Was "safe mode" supposed to take this long? I can't imagine that's what it was supposed to do like all the news outlets are saying. Sounds to me like Orbital is playing "safe face" with "safe mode."

How to get cheapest Opie and Anthony?

I have lots of XM Radios from the golden years of 5 years ago and want to activate one of them for just Opie and Anthony. I'm not sure the "Talk" package includes this channel. Does anyone know the cheapest way to get O&A? Thanks.

    Audio services on FTA Ku-band

Thanks again. I'm have no shortage of FiOS channels even with pointless URGE gone. I am just happy to enjoy the FTA hobby, from multi-LNB 36" dishes to motorized monstrosities and multiple DiSEqC switches I miss it but with so much scrambled it just became not so practical anymore. Thanks for...
