What size dish are you using with Voom

We have an 18" dish with total rain fade every time it even threatens to rain. Emailed Wilt asking for help and a couple weeks later we got an email to call and make an appointment with the installer for a new dish. Called the installer they said we were crazy and they never heard of a bigger...

Larger dish to face huge test this evening.

I'll try, but we won't hear back from them.. It was pretty hard to get an install around here, it took months and the guy had to come back a few times. They don't seem too interested in installing voom and they're the only installers near here besides some goofs that came once and said it...

Larger dish to face huge test this evening.

I had emailed Wilt a while ago asking for help getting a bigger dish, if it even threatens to rain our signal goes from 97 or so to below 60 and if it does rain it goes as low as 20. He mailed back right away saying he's see what he could do, a week or so later we got an email from Installs Inc...

Voom and original aspect ratio? (Please send your comment to VOOM)

You know what's really strange, anyone else notice that promo bit about why you need movies in widescreen.. all about aspect ratio.. "I want to see all of the movie!" Kind of odd when they crop and zoom so much cutting out so much of some movies. But it's nice that they've been doing some things...

    Voom/dish 61.5 ?

I don't know if this will help or not, we had an installer leave us with a signal of 30-35 the first time he left and after the software updated the first night it came into the 70's then he was able to come back (it took him a month though since he's over 100 miles away which is lame) and he...

Have you been told...? (By CSR OTA mapping not possible because FCC...)

no, we were just first told that a local we don't have mapped isn't digital so we can't get it (we've gotten it for months with out old STB and it is digital) and then they have absolutely no way to map them.

    I see. Thanks.

    Signal today? (5/12)

argh! well I guess I know what my problem is then. Hey, when you look at the signal is the bottom bar that shows the level of the signal green or yellow? Ours is yellow, I noticed on the installer docs that it was green. I know when he was trying to get a signal it was red then turned yellow...

    Signal today? (5/12)

That's kind of hard since I don't have a ladder that can reach it.. thanks for the advice though.

    Signal today? (5/12)

When our installer was here (the second one, the first ones came and said it couldn't be done and a month later we got someone else to come out) he couldn't get it above 30. He said sometimes it "jumps up later" and left after trying to get it higher for 2 hours. The next day after a software...

    Signal today? (5/12)

Yes, that's the first thing I tried.. customer service also had me do a reset by holding the power button down, that didn't help either.

    Signal today? (5/12)

My signal strength is normal today (it's always around 70) and 80% of the channels are not coming in at all and most that do are blocky and cutting out all the time. Anyone else seeing this? Talking to customer service they say our box might be defective. we've only been installed about 5 days...

    VOOM Installations

well it's really pretty questionable if we can get it anyhow with our trees and all but I wish they kind of tried harder. I think it just needs a little elevation off the roof. Maybe they don't get paid enough to actually try?

    VOOM Installations

well they had a compass.. no signal meter or anything like that. I didn't ask about a license or anything they were only here a few minutes. Is it as weird as I think they they'd make a special call saying no locals? Isn't it normal for voom to include locals? It's not that there's no signal...

    VOOM Installations

Well we just had our installers here.. They came with a tiny rusted pick up truck with no ladder. Looked around a few minutes and said there wasn't enough clearance on the trees.. I asked if it could be installed on a pole, I already have a pole here I'm not using and they said the pole had to...

    cropping of oar

Thanks for the answer. I never thought I'd see the day that I'd have to worry about this issue the other way around.. And now I read that dvd sets are being cropped too with that Kung Fu set. Disturbing.. I wonder if in 10 years we'll be having a hard time finding stuff on dvd that's in original 4:3

Poll: Do you prefer OAR content or modified to fit 16x9 screen?

it's really strange to me that people would complain about that ant not about stuff on the screen being cut off.. but you're right. When I watch pan and scan stuff all I end up being so distracted that I've just learned not to watch it, I'm sure I'll feel the same way with zoomed stuff when voom...

    Pet Peeves (Off topic)

I know someone with the same dvd player, you have to set it in the setup menus to display 16:9. So look in the manual or just look around on the menus.

Poll: Do you prefer OAR content or modified to fit 16x9 screen?

you know what I don't understand, why wouldn't they just broadcast everything OAR and let people adjust it as they wish with their TV's?

    cropping of oar

I still was wondering just how much of their programming is effected by this practice?

    cropping of oar

I am contemplating getting Voom and now I am leaning towards not getting it at all because of this issue. For years it was a fight to find movies that were letterboxed on VHS since I didn't want to watch anything pan and scan, this is the same thing, I'd not waste my time watching things other...
