VOOM Satellite Service to Dramatically Increase to Over 70 HD channels by March 2005

I have a lowly 30" CRT and think I can see the "skeeter" noise you described on Equator, especially in foliage. Maybe I'm just hallucinating. Regardless, do you think any HD provider will ever cater to very large screen sizes (110" ?) when determining what would be acceptable for a typical...

    Installs

Way off topic here but you asked... Poor line quality, tech can ping net and then leaves. Circuit goes up/down every few hours. Sometimes they install hardware before circuit is even provisioned and router not configured properly, etc., etc. I support #25 DSL sites in #5 states. Back to...

    Installs

People may be more inclined to make a post if their install had gone badly. My install was on time and they did a nice job. Voom contracts out the installs. Its a gamble but if I had dollar for all the botched DSL installations that I had to deal with I'd probably have a 70" DLP by now. :D

    V6.2 firmware

I received a firmware update to V6.2 yesterday. I had found the STB locked up and after rebooting it there was a screen showing a #13 file download in progress. It rebooted after a succesfull download and showed the HAL version as V6.2. All seems about the same except that the STB started tuning...

    Voom drops the ball again

I just got back from a trip to Fort Lauderdale,. "BrandsMart" has a big electronics & appliance store there with Voom running on dozens of their HDTV's. The store is comparable to a Circuit City or Best Buy. http://www.brandsmartusa.com/

Good News And Bad News...wow!!! (All Coming from CSR. Take it as you will)

With a 30" CRT, I will probably never see some of the PQ problems that many here have noticed. I can be patient with Voom for another year while all of the proposed changes are put into place, such as new transponders, codecs, DVR (oh please), etc. I hope that subscribers do not bail out on them...

    i love VOOM but

Thanks Ken. Seeing as how I already know all this information, except for my password, there is not much point in wasting any more time trying to login. I think I'll see whats on TV instead.

    i love VOOM but

I've been trying to login to the website now for six months. I have called & emailed them mumerous times to have someone reset the $%#@! password. I have given up for now. Can anyone tell me if there is anything there worth all this trouble, assuming that I could ever login and access it?

    HDN 100 News

It is puzzling that they have some good HD clips from sources like the election speeches but then choose to only show a single sound-byte from the speech. It may be a licensing issue but it would be nice if they interrupted the loop every now & then to run a complete speech or a longer segment...

    7/1 HD Cinema Premiere Movies

I wonder why "The Thing with Two Heads" is on the Cinema 10 channels? This one would have been perfect for the Monsters channel. It must be very uncomfortable for actors to appear in any two-headed parts. Another good (bad) one was "How to Get Ahead in Advertising".

    troubleshooting PQ problems

I aleady have used the weather maps to adjust the picture size. It would also be handy if there was a test pattern built into the Motorola STB. I have a budget CRT so having a professional calibration seemed like overkill. Any good links on how to adjust (possibly ruin) my own set? :D

What's up with the 3D-GLASSES channels?

Did anybody see a 3D effect on the Discovery footage of Mars? I tried it a couple of times and it just gave me blurry vision and a headache. These "anaglyph" type 3D images work good on my PC with the same glasses. If any of you have not been to an Imax 3D movie, you are missing out. The "Space...

HBO Channel 201 Audio & Picture Drops

Ditto. I went into the "tune satellite signal" menu and strength bar was 92 but changing from green to yellow every few seconds. Seems fine now and stays solid green.

    troubleshooting PQ problems

There are many threads comparing PQ of Voom vs other HD providers. Luckily, my PQ seems OK at the moment but I was interested in how to make fair comparisons and to troubleshoote HD systems. Lets say that an HDTV is connected to Voom, D*, E*, and a 2nd OTA tuner. Any comparison may have to...

    Getting sick of VOOM!!!

For what its worth, I had all the problems mentioned in first post for the first two months. About 50% of the time the picture was unwatchable due to the breakups and pixelation. The box would lockup and needed frequent reboots. I called Voom and they had the STB changed out but this did not...

    Sound out on Monsters

I had "Monsters" on all day yesterday and did not notice any sound problems. I prefered leaving MechaGodzilla and The Colossus of New York playing then tuning into Moov. Add me to the "I just don't get that channel" list.

    Enterprise Fans

I was lucky enough to catch it in OTA HD last night and it looked great. Hopefully your UPN affiliates will get their act together soon for you. My local UPN station airs the Wednesday show in HD but then will show it as letterboxed SD on the Sunday reruns. Why, I haven't a clue. Good show but a...

    Cinema channel question about 720P

Are the Voom SD channels broadcast in 480p? I am using a direct-view set that displays only 1080i and was not sure if it would make a visible improvement.

What would you like to see in HDnews?

How about a news analysis featuring Michael Moore and Michael Savage? Wait, there may be children present. How about adding the news to HdNews? The weather and the first five minutes of news are good but then we get a "feature" on Dallas dog parks or the creator of the Philly cheese steak...

    MAXHDW- Daredevil

My copy of Superman is remastered in DD5.1 and is OAR anamorphic widescreen. Don't you just hate it when you buy a new DVD and then they release the embossed, signed, boxed, special edition, director's cut with commentary by the caterer and an action figure included when the one they sold you...

    MAXHDW- Daredevil

Make that three of us having enjoyed it. I watched it again last night and it was fairly entertaining. Maybe the fact that I originally had to pay about $40 to see it for the first time (#2 tickets @ $9.50, $20 for junk food & drinks, plus $10 for parking) gave me a very bad attitude about this...

MonstersHD: Evil Dead Today at 12pm & 7pm CST

Fantastic, never saw the first one but really liked ED II & III. Bruce Campbell was also rather entertaining in his short-lived western series "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." but I have not seen it show up in syndication. P.S. Do not buy the Army of Darkness "Director's Cut, Official...

Disappointed with HD vs DVD movies

What sort of programming is available on the C-Band? Always wanted one but they are frowned upon for apartment dwellers such as myself.
