I would start by checking the receivers for voltage @ satellite input connection.I have seen a lot of receivers that will power up but don't send the voltage out to the dish.Mostly cause from either power surge or near by lightning strike.

Bottom dish must be on a mast.It will not work the way you are trying you can not slide the dish down the pole then put the second on top.Just use 2 U clamps to mount the mast to the pole for the lower dish.

Are you sure it is not pointed right?Maybe the receiver is only configured to look for 1 satellite.Try going into your menu and setting dish type to 3 LNB if it is not already.

Have you considered Directv as their sats are a little higher you may be able to clear the trees.Also they don't use the "super dish" so a roof mount shouldn't be an issue.
