    Is it worth the switch?

Here in the Seattle area, many still do not have cable because of the wind storm. I have both E* and D*, and never lost my signal. It may still be a week or so before all cable is restored (along with power). I was lucky because I never lost power, but if I had, I could connect my satellite...

Are there HD channels you almost never watch?

I just installed E* 2 weeks ago, so I'm not sure which HD stations I like/dislike yet. I've noticed the wobble on 129 with my Dish 1000, so the voom channels fade in and out. I'm in the Tacoma, WA area. I'm trying out E* for a couple of months before I decide if I want to keep it. I...

    Dead Hard Drive?

I have a Hughes DVR-80 and an RCA DVR-40, and I've upgraded both with new larger hard drives. At the time of the upgrade, I also made a backup of the images just in case one of the new drives fails. It's not that hard to do.

    Dead Hard Drive?

Most likely it did. Do you have a backup of the image?

    SD D* Tivo dying?

If you can find an identical unit, swap the hard drives. You will need to deactive the broken unit and activate the replacement one. There is no guarantee that the hard drive is still good.

Who does and does not use "Native Mode"?

I have 2 HTL-HD's, and my first HDTV would only handle 1080i and 480p, so I set the output to 1080i. If it was set to 720p, the TV picture would not show up. When I purchased a plasma TV (Pioneer), I continued to use 1080i, even though it would also handle 720p. I found it annoying that the...

I have: 2 Tivo's 2 HD receivers 1 SD receiver The SD receiver is for my RV. It's active, but not ususally plugged in. I also have an ancient Sony receiver that is falling apart (plastic is broken). I can't seem to part with it because I paid $1000 for it and the dish 10 years ago...

    Horror Story with local installer

When Will the DTV Transition Be Complete? Television stations serving all markets in the United States are airing digital television programming, although they can continue providing analog programming until February 17, 2009. At that point, broadcasting on the current (analog) channels will...

    Horror Story with local installer

Actually, the digital locals are on UHF, so a loop antenna would work better than rabbit ears, unless the rabbit ears also came with a loop :) The clock is ticking on channels 2-13....

    ENTER HERE: Satcontrol HH Motor

WOW! 40,000! It seems only yesterday when we reached the 10,000 mark. How time flies. This seems to be the only satellite site left that doesn't remove posts that are critical about the services. Keep up the great work Scott (and all the staff members). This is the site I refer more people to...

    Free DVR

I activated my "free" DVR a couple of weeks ago. I just check my account today and is still has "No annual commitment", yet I received a postcard from DirecTV saying that I'm now under a 2 year commitment. What gives? Is this just a standard postcard sent to everyone that gets a DVR? I'm...

    Free DVR

I've just upgraded my "free" DVR from 40Gb to 160Gb. I didn't want to try this on my other DVR because I rely on it so much. This DVR is in a spare room so I could afford to lose it if I screwed it up. It took a couple of trys, but now I have the procedure written down. I also made a backup...

    Free DVR

Here are the pictures of the inside of the RCA DVR40 that I promised. It clearly shows where the heat sinks are located. The hard drive is missing because I'm in the process of upgrading to a 160Gb drive.

    Free DVR

I too got the RCA DVR40. When I get home tonight, I'll take a picture of the inside of my DVR and post it here. I have mine apart so I can put in a larger drive. Now, if I can find ONE of my computers that will recognize a 160Gb drive.....

    Commitment is gone!!!!

I received the free 40GB DVR last Friday, and I told the CSR that I was not going to be under any commitment. I took a 2nd call to another CSR to clear the commitment, and so here is my configuration: Programming Service DIRECTV DVR Service TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER HD Package...

    D* Best Customer offer??

Update on my earlier post in this thread When I called and cancelled the free DVR, I thought that D* would cancel sending me the DVR, but it arrived Friday. All that D* did was cancel the install. I installed the DVR (it's an RCA 40GB type), and when I activated it, the CSR said that I was...

    D* Best Customer offer??

This has nothing to do with the dish. I already have the 3 LNB dish and the 5X8 multiswitch, with 2 cables running into the location where I was going to put the DVR. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to plug in a DVR.

    D* Best Customer offer??

I took the offer, and at the end of the order process, it required me to schedule an install. I called DirecTV, and the CSR said that "Advanced equipment REQUIRES a technician to install". Now, I've been a DirecTV customer for over 10 years, and I've NEVER had anyone install my equipment...
