    Sat-IP Anyone?

It was my understanding that the Sat-IP has nothing to do with encryption. It basically just converts the signal to a different medium. If it can then be converted back down to a coax it would be encrypted the whole way and the original receiver would never know the satellite was so far away.

    Sat-IP Anyone?

The lag I would find incredibly annoying. That's why I'd like to move the receiver locally. We have 400/75 Mbps internet here and the "host house" has 1Gbps/100Mbps internet so that's not a problem.

    Sat-IP Anyone?

With the impending doom of Shaw moving to mostly HD in the next couple years, I have begun yet again to try and figure out how not to lose Canadian reception. We switched from Bell to Shaw when Bell did this, and things have been good but going downhill and will only get worse. I was...

What is the furthest south that anyone has gotten Anik G1

Would really like to know if that 3.8m dish in LA could pick up and lock onto the bird. I'm further North, and could put a 5m dish potentially. For Shaw, just any Ku Offset dish should work right?

Switching from Bell to Shaw in Southern US

I'm going to order the Shaw system. Try with the "default" 75e setup and see what I get. Then if needed point the 1.2m at G1. It appears that I can't use the DishNetwork/Bell switches I have with Shaw, or at least that is what I have been reading. So I'll just pick up a new quad switch made for...

Switching from Bell to Shaw in Southern US

Well I pick up Nimiq4 on 82 in the daytime with 50's to 60's signal strength with the 1.2m. Because of the Nimiq4 wobble I lose it at night time. The G1 footprint is much more southern than the Nimiq4 footprint so I am fairly confident I can pick it up at least in the day time. From what I...

having trouble locating Nimiq 6 and Nimiq 4 in Northeasten Colorado

Apparently the "wobble" I saw when Nimiq 4 was initially launched still exists... I could have sworn the wobble was so bad it was unintentional and they would have stabilized it by now, but apparently not. I checked signal levels around 11pm tonight, and everything was 0 on 82. This is similar...

Switching from Bell to Shaw in Southern US

Hello All, We have had Bell since 2007 and with Bell's newer restrictive birds, the two options we are debating is (1) putting in 2 larger dishes for reception of Bell or (2) ditching Bell and and going with Shaw. From what I gather, Shaw has 3 satellites: Anik F1-R, F2, and G1.The Anik G1 is...

having trouble locating Nimiq 6 and Nimiq 4 in Northeasten Colorado

When Nimiq 4 went up, we lost 82 completely on a smaller 45cm dish. I mistyped earlier. The first setup in ~2007 had a 30cm pointed at 91 and a 45cm pointed at 82. That worked great until Nimiq4, then 82 went dead. Completely, did not receive a signal at all. Every transponder was 0. This is...

having trouble locating Nimiq 6 and Nimiq 4 in Northeasten Colorado

We have a 1.2m dish aimed at 82 and a 30cm aimed at 91. Last year when Nimiq6 launched we lost 91 and 82 went way south with Nimiq4. Located in Colorado Springs. We want it back. We've gone a year with CBC and it is killing us. It has been off (but we have kept paying for the subscription)...

    91W NIMIQ 6 completely active now....footprint changed

Well I am trying to figure out how to get my signal back... I have a 1.2m pointed at 82. Seems to work OK at my location (38.9, -104.8). Obviously when Nimiq6 launched, 91 was lost. But signals can't be lost, just weakened right? So I am looking at the minimum sized dish needed to pick up...

    Nimiq 82

You are too far south to receive 82 with a good signal strength on a regular sized dish. I am in Colorado and use a dish over a meter in diameter dedicated to 82. Over multiple nights, I have tracked the signal strength of 82. Midday I get the best signals, at night I get the worst. Seems...

Adding Dish or Directv with Shaw

They dont care. Just tell them what you want, and not to touch the other setup. We have Dish Network and Bell. Dish Network didnt care when they came by to upgrade their dish to HD and run new cabling after a huge storm. I just told them not to touch anything on the Bell line, and they didnt...

    Nimiq 6 launch contracted

So being at 91, does this mean it will replace the current sats, or just add to? Footprint wise, I am guessing once Nimiq 6 is fully functional they will realign the current sats to give a greater Northern footprint...

One reason to get BEV/SD in the US

IMHO CTV is doing a CRAPPY job at broadcasting. They are doing the American thing and having little sports coverage, and lots of background stories on athletes. I dont care about that, I want to see the sports. Then they break away to some side story and say you can get the full coverage on a...

In the US, No Sat 82 since Nimiq4, need advice

Well 91 has the same old sat up in the sky, with the very broad footprint. You can pick that up with the standard dish. But you will get 0 on 82 with it, guaranteed.

In the US, No Sat 82 since Nimiq4, need advice

Look at post #35 in this thread. 82 is a DEDICATED 1.2 meter dish and those are the signal strengths I get from night to day. Basically HD when the sun is up, otherwise too weak for a lock. Colorado Springs, CO vs. Vegas has a better location so you would need something larger.

Living in NY, what are my options in getting CBC HD without having a dish?

I thought starchoice dish's were not compatible with bell? Either way you are going to destroy her bandwidth. Internal streaming in HD is no problem even over wireless G. But usually 6mbps is the norm outside the house unless you pay a crapload. Single dish to get both wont work, they are...

Living in NY, what are my options in getting CBC HD without having a dish?

Just an idea, but you could connect it to one of those motorized dealies that will swivel it to the right spot when you want bell and then back when you want dish. If you ran it through a splitter then through powered switches, you could use a relay on the power line to cut power to one and...

    bell in north jersey

ServiceMagic.com is good. It is free for you and no obligation. I used them for lots of things. The contractors have to pay to be a part of it. You say what you want and where you are, they contact everyone qualified for you with the details, and then they call you. Also dont forget...

    Nimiq 5

Ok, that's good news. I thought it was fully owned by Bell so they would naturally have some active transponders on there. But this works better :)

    bell in north jersey

Well the part that makes it almost instead of fully is generally the size of your dish and your pointing. Get a monsterous dish and pay someone to hook it up correctly.

    Nimiq 5

I guess it is that time of the year where Bell tries to screw us all again... Nimiq 5 seems ready to launch and I was wondering if anyone knew what this meant to us southern signal receivers. I am guessing it will have a razor sharp cutoff even more so than Nimiq 4. Does anyone have any details...
