The only Viacom channel worth watching is Comedy Central. If Nickelodeon would've kept all of the game shows from the '90s (before they came up with spongebob), that channel would've been worth keeping too.

More than likely, a few cable networks would go to 4K first. As for the broadcast networks, well it's a lot more complicated. We have to wait and see if and when the new ATSC 3.0 system will get finalized and approved by the FCC, which could take at least another year...

Wow. I don't think WDIV has ever gotten dropped from any provider. Sucks for my neighbor as he just went back to Dish from Directv.

All of the RSNs owned by Fox have letterboxed their SD feeds as well. Face it. HD is the standard now and it's time all of the TV providers treat it as the standard and not as a privilege.

There are too many receivers out there for Dish to replace for them to go MPEG-4 on Western Arc. I'm sure that's the plan in the long term, but only when Dish believes the cost to do it is manageable.

So basically, the niche channels will be converted first, then the more popular ones. I know Dish is trying to give customers multiple warnings about this, but otoh, customers have had over a year to make the upgrades. If Dish still has to deal with a lot of phone calls about this, then I guess...

Yup, it's about time. I wouldn't be in a hurry to launch a 4K channel. Focus on adding any IMPORTANT HD channels that are missing and improving the PQ (which was decent to begin with) then figure out how to do 4K down the road.
