$50 Dish Grounding Inspection Fee passed by Omaha, Ne

Pure idiocy and rankly unfair. 1. Cable is exempt 2. Every three years? They cite plumbing and electric is inspected ... and that this is not different. Then INSPECT everyone PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL every 3 YEARS, and see what outcry ya get. 3. $50 is onerous. $15 might have slipped by, but...

Some Dish Network News (July 5, 2006)

Does that mean I'm going DARK here, with my 6000 receiver (+61.5)? I'm getting the "old" HD pack (some Voom, TNT, HDNets, etc.) a la carte for $15. As much as I want all of VOOM plus Univ. HD, etc. I refuse to have to have to jump from $15 to $40 plus lease fee for those few extra channels...

6000 reciever will not downconvert HD Pak channels

Yep. I have a 6000, and it is working perfectly in all ways.

Looks like no Dish and no Voom for me :-(

To answer question to me... My bill with all charges, fees, is about $25. That is with HD pack, superstation pack, and VOOM channels. I CAN get 110/119, so I get TNT-HD etc, (which cable does not have yet).

Looks like no Dish and no Voom for me :-(

You might do what I do ... just use the 61.5 dish for the VOOM channels, and get that from Dish a la carte, then use cable for your other HD and SD. That's assuming you have a decent cable service. Adelphia has a good setup in my part of VA, even has ESPN2! And my cable SD is far superior to...

    I dumped DirecTV for Dish

You gotta be kidding. At least for some cable systems. I have had Dish and Adelphia, and I can tell you that at least here in this part of VA, for SD, cable is so much superior in picture quality. Hands down. I know there are terrible cable systems out there. So yes, the comparison can vary...

    Dish Network Petition

Many of us are "on the edge." If it weren't for TNT-HD and VOOM, I'd a been gone already. 1. If VOOM shows up elsewhere, E* is in trouble. Especially when it goes 21. Really especially if cable or Direct does 21 before E* because of lack of motion on this. 2. I would rather support a general...

Which is better Dish's HD or Dirctv's HD

Dish HD has generally been the best. VOOM was better until the latter days with the new harmonic compression. Actually, Adelphia (in VA) has pretty good HD, almost as good as Dish, in fact, almost imperceptible at times. I hope it stays that good when Comcast takes over.

time frame on HD FOX, ABC, & NBC?

Cannot get OTA here due to mountains (even though I am only 20 miles from transmitters). I will go to first provider which can give me locals in HD.

Ota's More Difficult To Get On Dish Than Voom

Yep, using the same antenna (Channel Master with pre-amp that VOOM put up), I can tell, the Dish OTA rec. is not as sensitive. I had to go back to using the VOOM unit as just the OTA receiver. Extra wires and hookup, but worth it here.

    Leaving Dish for Adelphia Cable

Yeah, the $5.99 fee is outragious. Especially since you STILL have to pay $30 for a service call. So, in a year, you pay $72 to save $70??? I typically have needed help once every 3 yrs. So, now it's $126 to save $70. I'm sure the bean counters at dish are slapping each others backs over this deal.

    HD Picture Quality Improving?

Last night I switched instantly between Discovery HD on cable (Adelphia) and on Dish, and Dish was better, definitely. And yes, some of the VOOM channels looked quite good.

    should I exchange my 6000 for 811?

Yea, well my catch is that my 6000 (returning to service) does not have as sensitive an OTA receiver as my old VOOM unit. I've lost my nearest NBC-HD channel. Does anyone know if the 811, 921, or 942 have a more sensitive OTA receiver?

    Voom Channels Comming to Dish?

The first poster may be right. I posted this over on a VOOM forum. And, as I said, I hope I don't get anyone in trouble, but... I was told by an "Dish-source" (who is also a friend) that "it looks like we are going to be picking up VOOM programming as well." I don't know if that is just...

    Thinking of Dumping Dish

After being with Dish for over seven years, I finally pulled the plug on them yesterday for the reasons stated in the first post. It was reluctantaly, but they have focused only on locals, and that the crowd they'll get, not the HD lovers. That may be financially better for them, so be it. I...

    D* with NBC-HD E & W - What about it Dish?

Is there any hope for a similar deal with NBC-HD as CBS-HD? (w/similar qualifications, etc.?) CSR tells me they are "negotiating" with NBC. Direct appears to have beat them in this venture. If Dish comes through it will be better, for D* forces sub to get basic package as minimum, while Dish...

Any news on new Dish HD channels?

Seem like Charlie recently expressed that "there just isn't anything worth adding" as far as new HD. With Superdish out of the picture as a solution for HD, Dish is against the wall it seems. I wouldn't expect much for a while. Direct could or might really trump Dish on this if their new sat...

    Anyone considering Voom?

Right now, I'm running E* and VOOM and Adelphia 1. E* has best compression factor for HD ... that is, best HD pictures, though VOOM is a close second, Adelphia is last. 2. E* has the worst SD pictures, by far, very soft, etc. Adelphia SD analog is fair, their SD digital is great. VOOM SD is...

    Comcast Sales Pitch -

I had to call their national cable support number. It took some prying, but I got them to finally say that the PVRs are coming starting in January. And it will be a national rollout. Of course, exact timing for each local office might vary. The 80meg PVR (mentioned above) must be SD. I would...

    Comcast Sales Pitch -

Adelphia is also rolling out SD and HD PVRs starting in January as well. However, still not as much HD offerings (other than locals) as Dish has to offer (i.e. no ESPN-HD, Discovery, etc.). But they've been adding about a channel per month of HD lately.

This just in... Enhanced Definition Channels

I think this went into the dust bins when they totally revamped their strategy with Superdish/HD to 110 changes. Since Superdish didn't cover the whole US, 110 gave a one-dish solution, but boy does it have it's limitations in space. They technically COULD move a lot of locals to Superdish, but...

Using the HD/DVR 921 with a DVD recorder.

There ARE some DVD recorder models that will record with component input (Philips at least, I think). I suppose that would make for the best image in DVD quality (though certainly not in HD res). But all the rest above stands correct.

    E-mail I just sent to ceo@echostar.com

Count me in (for multiple signed correspondence). I also got the FORM LETTER response to my email. This is all a fiasco, and it sprung mostly from the SuperDish disaster. Many of our local Dish dealers are HACKED because they hired MANY installers to get ready for the nearly-free upgrade...

    E-mail I just sent to ceo@echostar.com

Good grief. We all know TV is just TV. Life goes on and has more important things .... BUT we do get to care about our leisure and even about Echostar. I was one of their first subscribers, and I haven't whined. I do wish Echostar well, and wish they'd not screw up. That's okay. So ... apart...

Anything mentioned last night about the 921?

Yes, you can pretty well count on the 921 not being available in QUANTITY until nearly February, at best ... it COULD be later. They are riding high on the incredible increase in locals and the 811 coming out. I have had it with my contacts in Echostar. They have strung me out too many times...
