    Nomad First Look

Actually makes sense. They wrote this around their highest compression format (MPEG4 and simplified it by only supporting one. More effort and complication to support more than one.

    HR24-500 or Tivo holdout?

HR24. Simply put, its here, its available, its fast, it does advanced features (youtube, on demand, MRV, etc.) And you can get deals if you ask for retention when you call up Directv. Just say you are thinking of going to Dish or Cable.

New Directv Tivo finally nears launch?

I personally dont miss the Tivo but I know my wife liked it. The key for me has to be the integration with the other Directv units. If it can't do whole house sharing then this is a complete no go. I love how my 3 DVRs work together as a collective with the power of recording 6 things at...

    HDMI connection required?

This is not good for Slingbox. I get their signal off of Component. I dont use it that much but I hate someone restricting me on what I can do.

    Was D* 12 a disappointment?

I was watching Directv's capacity the other day. They are certainly the leader. The transponder signal meter checks were very entertaining. Who says D12 is a disappointment?

    Just ordered HR24

Cool SatJay. I thought about a second unit but my existing HR20's are acting more like back end DVRs to do the recording and the playing is handled on my HR24. I got an H24 for outside and it plays the recorded shows off the old slow HR20's pretty well. But I agree, the HR24 is finally a...

HD free for life - billing error

My retention credits and the HD for life is missing too. I knew that CSR screwed things up when I called a month ago. None of the things he said stuck. Great another call back.

    No PIP for D*?

I would encourage Directv to offer PIP. I have it via the TV but want it natively. Come'on Directv gimme my PIP!

    Just picked up an H24

Correct. If you are on an HR24 for example and hit record on a program, it records it to the HR24. If you do that on an H23 for example, it will then ask you which DVR do you want to record to.

    Just picked up an H24

Its a great feature of the H2x's. Thats why I had to have the network jack on my H23. You can tell it to record to any of your DVR's and play them back. This whole home DVR thingy has come a long way and is working great.

    Just picked up an H24

I already have 3 DVRS and because of unplugging and mobility of the unit, I didnt want to get a unit with a hard drive. The HR24 is clearly the better unit and is noticeably faster. They are both great units and glad I fried my H23. ;)

    Just picked up an H24

The network port on my H23 died. I need MRV so I need the network jack. I couldnt get a deal from Directv and wanted to ensure I got an H24 so I ordered one from Amazon.com via 6th avenue for $97 with free shipping. It got to my house in 2 days. I was stunned at how small the unit is. I...

HD Nationals: The 10 Most Needed?

Dont care about anything but BBC America HD. And even that, I've been all set since they released Comedy Central HD. As much as I dont mind more movie channels, I barely find enough stuff to watch on one of them. So from a business perspective, the HD spectrum is pretty darn good and I...

    DECA Question

I have an HR24, H24, HR20-100 and an HR20-700. All are connected via a private network and Ethernet. HR24 and H24 have the DECA built in. If I were to get only one DECA for the connection to my router, will the built-in DECA units be able to see the Ethernet wired units (legacy HR20's)? I...

    Rumor: DirecTV considering buying Tivo

The HR24 is really a game changer. The response with all that real time stuff is instantaneous. Well worth the $160-$200 price tag. Whether its better or not from a user preference stand point, for me its like Windows PC that I am accustomed to how it functions and speeding it up 10 fold...

    Rumor: DirecTV considering buying Tivo

I loved Tivo from the start. Now that the HR24 is out, I dont miss it one bit. I think its a good move for Directv to lock up the patents and gain some name cache but whether we see an MPEG4 HD Directv Tivo that does MRV, I am not really that concerned.

    Just ordered HR24

I have a Directv credit card and do the same thing. Put everything on it and pay the balance in full every month to collect points. I can use the points for Amazon but I actually use the credits to pay my Directv bill. I barely pay anything now for Directv.

    Just ordered HR24

I know some folks dont like the GUI but I dont think anyone can argue about the speed of this thing. As long as it does stable DVR functions and MRV, any knocks are really nit picking.

    DIRECTV Announces New HD!

I got my basis covered so any HD is all bonus at this point. I do wish BBC America was in the first wave but its not like I have nothing to watch. After the initial big HD wave MRV was the most important thing and even thats been solved. And now the HR24 speed. Jeez Directv, I am spoiled.

    Anyone Watching ESPN 3D?

Trying it right now. Doesnt appear to work with Directv. Here is quote from Optoma website. Using the inherent speed of DLP technology, select Optoma projectors can output video and images at an astonishing rate of 120Hz allowing you to view colorful stereoscopic 3D full screen image. The...

    Anyone Watching ESPN 3D?

Just bought this unit last week. Havent tried the 3D yet. I dont have any glasses and my research was not conclusive on what I need to work with Directv and this unit.

    Anyone Watching ESPN 3D?

I just got an outdoor 720P projector that happens to be 3D ready. So I might take advantage at some point but outdoor movie night needs lots of glasses and I will hold off till the price point becomes more financially feasible.
