Question about the mpeg4 HD channels

Thanks for the response guys. I thought maybe I didn't have something set right but it only seems to happen on some shows and not others. At least it's better picture quality than otherwise. Yeah, and I hate that stretching effect on TNT too and usually find something else to watch instead...

Question about the mpeg4 HD channels

So I got an upgrade to the H23 from the H10, and some, but not all, shows on the HD channels do not fill the screen, even though it's in 16:9 size and the H23 light says it's 1080. The picture is noticably sharper over SD, but smaller than other HD shows or movies. An example is SG-1 on the...

New Receiver: H23 (UPDATE: Now with Pictures)

I just got a free upgrade from D*, replacing my H10 with the H23. They also had to install the Slimeline dish as mine was obsolete. Although I'm grateful for the free upgrade, and the extra HD channels that I can now get, I really think it sucks that I no longer have OTA through it. I...

    Free upgrade?

Followup: The D* installer is currently putting in my new slimline dish for the new box, which btw is the newest model, the H23. Next step is to see if D* will give me the external ota tuner.

    Free upgrade?

Thanks for the response. I don't know which box they will give me, but I did tell the operator that I do NOT want another commitment, and he said I would not have one. I took down his name and operater number so I can refer to him if they try giving me one. That kinda sucks to have to buy an...

    Free upgrade?

Just got an automated phone call from D* about how my old HD box can be upgraded for free for mpeg 4. I haven't kept up with what's what as I haven't been watching TV as much as I used to, and don't really care that I can't get all the HD channels they now offer. I'm free of any commitments...

    HR20 Software Release Notes - 0xEF

Well actually, Avia and Digital Video Essentials both recommend turning the sharpness down or off, that it's just a gimmick. I've noticed that it depends not only on the particular tv you're using, but also how far back you sit. Up close, using the sharpness looks bad. Further back, not so...

    HR20 question

I've since found the manual online and it makes it sound like it has to have a phone line connection. "We require a land-based telephone connection to communicate periodically with your Directv Plus HD DVR." - page 15. Maybe it needs it to 'phone home' with info about our viewing habits...

    HR20 question

I'm looking into upgrading from the H10 to the HR20 dvr. The only problem I can think of is do I HAVE to have a phone line to use it, because I gave up my land-based phone for a cell phone years ago? I know there are broadband Tivos and Replays out there, but can the HR20 use broadband...
