The Future, The Truth, 4DTV, 410

Knowing is a small part of it. Doing it is a whole other matter. First, they will gave to get Shaw to collect those receivers an buy them from them, and have them "refurbished" to re-program with C-band firmware (which getting written will cost), and clearing the U/A from the Shaw database...

    920 & 922

In theory, 4DTV reciever could use the trickle guide, since I think that is how the 921 (StarChoce 4DTv model) get is guide data.

    Von Weise reed switch trouble..

When I needed a reed switch for my Thompson-Saginaw, I just got an NO magnetic burglar alarm window sensor from what was then my local Radio Shack (now The Source) store, and rigged it so it would open/close with the magnets on the wheel. I got a cheaper one that was in a smaller package and...

    shawdirect/starchoice 4dtv?

The 319/209 do 8PSK also, but only receive SD channels. Access is still there. I will have to check its Auth status. I heard the 605 will have "plug in DVR", like the Bell 6141.

How much did you pay for your first C-Band dish?

1998: $75 for a 7.5 ft fiberglass dish and pole, LNA, block downconverter, GI SRX205bb receiver, VC2100e decoder box, dish mover controller (regionally made, modified for power/display control), Warner 18" jack, and typical Chapparal C-band feedhorn with Polarotor motor. I paid I think $30 for...

Don't Believe NPS about C band support ending.

On firmware: Getting it to accept a different EMM is not the hard part. What needs to be done is the code to work with C-band, with its paradigm of being multi satellite on a motorised dish. That is the hard part and costs money, which will need to be dividied amongst a few thousand users...

    Why not 4DTV?

The end users aren't there in quantity enough to make it a worthwhile venture. Not to mention the channels will need to get involved, and they may say no.

    Why not 4DTV?

Some things: 1. Yes, Shaw contracts with the ACC to authorize their consumer receivers. 2. They do not use DVB-S2 yet. Part of the upgrade to the 6xx receivers is so they can switch HD channels to that format. As for turbo-8PSK, they do have some SD channels on that, and in time are...

    C Band Microwave???

It could be a C-band receiver that accepts a direct LNA feed. There were at least commercial receivers that worked that way, and at least very early home TVRO receivers. Then there is terrestrial microwave, which is usually in the 2 Ghz range. Microwave is generally point-to-point, and by now...

NPS Shutting Down G3 Channels in April

It isn'y only TV, it is TV that users directly subscribe to and pay good money for, and with a subscription service that is on very shakey ground. You wouln't laugh it your provider was taking away channels you already paid for, and didn't refund you, would you? If it were free TV, I wouldn't...

Can I power a standard ku lnb with azbox

They won't. An LNB uses just 18V. A DVB-FTA receiver will put put that or 13V.

    DSR-922/DSR-920 Battery Questions

You cannot reprogram them,. They have a fuse that is blown after programming. I would have to say that ATS likely doesn't have a programmer, rather they have a stock of replacement boards from Motorola, which Motorola themselves change out the crypto chip and program with the keys/UA for that...

    C-Band Multiple rooms

Technically, the receiver can work with band stacked (being it uses the same technology as a Starchoice receiver, which does that well). It is just it is likely the programmer hasn't the option to change that, or the training/authorization to.

    Hi Tech Motor Cover

Unless I absolutely have to, I tend not to cover things. I never had a boot on my jack, and never had a freeze-up (that I recall), or moisture/water ingress into the jack works. Same for the LNBs and such. They were never covered, and I use no tape or grease on coax fittings.

    Reed Sensor

I used a burglar alarm NO type reed switch on my Saginaw arm. I don't recall if it has limit switches, but I my last IRD (Uniden Ultra), had software limits.

Motorola Looking to Sell Set-Top Box Unit

IMHO 4DTV and the whole DCII system is fine. It is just that Motorola will not be designing or manufacturing boxes anymore, not that What I see are companies such as Pace picking up where Motorola left off in the DCII boxes, and Tru2Way taking over the US cable market, both in boxes...

    Food Network

You will need a 4DTV receiver to get that group of channels, and no 4DTV receiver has an OTA tuner, digital or otherwise. Standalone OTA tuners aren't that expensive really, and for the small investment are worth it, being it is free after that.

How Long Have You Had Your BUD?

I have had C-band since 1998, gave up on it 2004 or later; I never got around to setting up a proper pole mount for it. I got the disg and some stuff the week after Christmas 1997, some stuff the next month, and got it set up by February 1998, one of the first things I seen was the NASA press...
