    No, for purposes of an install an HDTV is not required as all of the 722's outputs are active at the same time. The 722 will down-convert the HD channels over non-HD outputs (S-Video/Composite, unsure about component as I do not yet own a 722).

    The CATV input on a E* box is passthrough only. You must turn your box off to get those channels, which will rely on your tv's tuner. The channel range is not limited in any way.
