MLB Extra Innings Coming to DISH!

Ha you wish. The joy of MLBEI is the ability to switch from game to game. If you want to only watch one game, MLB wants you to go here... http://mlb.tv

    HD Tivo and 921 comparisons

The problem with that is that they don't want you able to remove digital information from the DVR. Giving firewire access (two way) would open them up to pirates.

    EchoStar Bids For DirecTV-Ordered Satellites

All this does is raise rates for all of us. :( Rupert does not own DirecTV yet, so any talk about him being involved is incorrect. Rupert has no say about any of this.

Better Way of doing Sport Packages

Thats sort of what TiVo and NFL Sunday Ticket have going... I dumped NHL CI this year so I can't comment if DirecTV is doing it.

    How is fragmentation handled?

I read the thread again and see how you came to your conclusion. I guess 50x was implied, but not specified. SCO aside, most future PVRs will be based upon Linux and hande fragmentation well. True, but if planned for, any programmer can take that into consideration and run a defrag utility...

    How is fragmentation handled?

Don't be condensending. I use HP-UX every day to complete my work and I integrate UNIX servers for the U.S. Navy. There is nothing you can say that I don't already know about JFS, xfs, extfs or any other journaled file system technology. I would expect someone who thinks a username of...

    How is fragmentation handled?

I doubt the file system of a Dish DVR is any more advanced than FAT32. Such a file system has overhead that a DVR doesn't need. A disk defrag tool and the constant restarts that make a Dish DVR a Dish DVR is all you need.

    How is fragmentation handled?

Whoa, how do you make that assumption?

    How is fragmentation handled?

From what I've read at TiVo Community, the TiVo handles the defrag on its own.

Echostar to Purchase Sirius Satellite Radio?

Whats the difference? You'd still need to buy a Sirius radio.... If you want better music from your DSB provider, you'll still need to switch.

No idea since I use the DVI output.

How does your HD compare to DVD ?

I was impressed with the US Open. Our CBS here in Phoenix used that to launch their HDTV signal.

Dish Network has equipment to broadcast 25 HD Channels!

Tampa, you got me thinking about what I hate about how satellite does HD. Super dish for Dish and the triple LNB for DirecTV. These dishes are getting bigger not smaller and that is one reason I can see myself going back to cable.

Dish Network has equipment to broadcast 25 HD Channels!

25 channels and still mostly crap. I love ESPN-HD when they are showing games in HD, but as with most of these channels they are not true HD. Soon though, soon.

How does your HD compare to DVD ?

Well that depends on the DVD Player and what you are watching. I have a Samsung DVD-HD931 which has a DVI output so my DVD's look great (it actually scales a DVD up to 720p/1080i). My old Sony DVD was good, but I would notice that it didn't look as good as HDTV. Now OTH and Sat both look the...

    Info about the 921, 811, 6000, 211, etc.

Well, lets wait until someone has a test unit. It might be buggy right now but they could get it all fixed by the time they eventually release it. Sounds like they have plenty of time. Its not like DirecTV has a HD DVR going right now.
