A foot of snow on the ground and...

I've got two dishes attached to the side of the house. One can be reached with the broom out a window, the other you just have to pray and wait. Fortunately, nothing has stuck well enough to cause signal issues - yet.

Newbie Questions about DISH Receiver Capabilities

The HDCP on HDMI is easily disabled by connecting a device that doesn't support it. I use the Hauppauge Colossus for my HD recording from a 222k. From what I heard, it doesn't work on premium movie/PPV channels.

    siriusxm music channels

I only ever listen to one SXM channel which is on both services. I subscribe to the À la carte package. I like the idea of a real life human on the other end.

    A 'cool' VIP222K

As I had said, I hadn't calculated it. Purchase with OTA module was about $200. I should double check that. Edit: After doing a little research, I probably should have leased it. I purchased it without running the numbers.

    A 'cool' VIP222K

I own it. Leasing usually costs more in the long run, but I haven't calculated it for Dish. The LED's on the front may be next... orange, green, blue - almost a Christmas tree.

    A 'cool' VIP222K

I was just a little curious on what exactly was inside of this thing, so I took the cover off. I found the big Broadcom chip to be as hot as a pancake griddle, so I decided to do something about it. The two other ones near the tuners were also hot. I found some heatsinks laying around, and I...

    dish 101 question

It uses a complex system of bandpass filters, called a diplexer, to separate the frequency bands. The satellite signal and the TV signal uses two separate bands, and therefore can use the same cable.

Can't reuse external storage drive from ViP 622 with my PC?

From the Control Panel, Click on the System and Security link. Click on the Administrative Tools heading located near the bottom of the window and double-click on Computer Management. Under Storage, click on Disk Management. There you should be able to find the disk and format the disk.
