    NBC Sports Chicago Upcoming Renewal

I hated the Apple remote until I got a hang of “touching” instead of “swiping” to navigate with it. If you touch the top/bottom/left/right you move the cursor or selector one step in that direction. Touch 4 times on the right of the touchpad, the cursor moves exactly 4 spaces to the right on...

Dish quarterly profit misses on pay-TV subscriber losses . . .

I can see these 2 things being a driver for some people to stay or come back to traditional TV distributors. Some aspects of cloud DVR are great: you don't have to worry about tuners, and your recordings are available on any device anywhere in the US with an Internet connection. The downside...

AT&T Plans to End Their Satellite DIRECTV & Focus on Streaming

I would buy that if the MLB didn't just ink another long term broadcast rights contract just a couple weeks ago. Fox Sports and Major League Baseball Extend Rights Deal Through 2028

AT&T Plans to End Their Satellite DIRECTV & Focus on Streaming

It doesn't work the way that article states though, it just allows you to watch an out-of-market team broadcast if they happen to come to your local market. https://www.cubsinsider.com/2017/04/04/mlb-tvs-follow-team-feature-still-stinks-misses-opportunity-grow-fans/ If you authenticate that...

AT&T Plans to End Their Satellite DIRECTV & Focus on Streaming

Nope. You can pay a bit less and get a single out-of-market team instead of all out-of-market teams, but it can't be your local team in any case. MLB.TV has new, reduced price Subscribe Blackout rules very much still apply: MLB.TV Blackouts FAQ NHL.com - Gamecenter Live FAQ

AT&T Plans to End Their Satellite DIRECTV & Focus on Streaming

Not at all. MLB.tv and NHL.tv only provide out of market subscriptions; they give you the ability to see games for which there are no local or national broadcast rights holder conflicts. You can't watch your local team on those streaming services, because your local regional sports network...

    HBO/Cinemax Takedown

Amazon does get some of the catalog items a bit more slowly, but you can log in using HBO NOW (not Go) apps/website and referencing Amazon as your billing service. With the Amazon channel, in addition to getting some content with a delay, some of the movies are only available via the HBO NOW/GO...

Versus Lack of Availability on Dish Network Lower Tiers Hits Home

I'm sorry, but this just isn't true. The last annual statement from Comcast covering dates up to Dec 31, 2009 (Link) showed Versus had 54 million subscribers during the DirecTV scuffle where they couldn't count those viewers. For the same time period DirecTV had 18.5 million subscribers...

What happened to Ducks/Sabres on CI 12/21/10?

That game wasn't available out of market for pretty much everyone. There was no game feed on NHL GameCenter Live, it wasn't on DirecTV for Center Ice, nor was it on Shaw Direct (Canada) Centre Ice. The schedule on NHL.com had no broadcast networks listed. Same with the Atlanta game last night.

    MSG gone too from DISH

Nobody is really stuck in a Pay TV contract -- you just have some level of cost to end the contract. In this marketplace, some companies are willing to cover your early termination fees to switch, so if you really want out be sure to ask. This will not work, at least not the way you describe...

    fox sports question

The CI channels are not "unique" channels - they just remap the regular market RSNs. So they pick whatever local markets will get their game in HD, and however that shakes out for CI is what you get.

    fox sports question

They manually pick the games, so the guide updates probably just haven't been pushed out yet. With Center Ice last year on Dish, some of the games wouldn't show up as being on an HD channel until the day of the game.

    fox sports question

Dish only has the capacity to air 8 or 9 HD feeds out of all of the RSNs they cover on any given night. The last Charlie Chat I watched before switching back in June, Ergen said that they wouldn't have the capacity to start doing full-time HD RSNs until sometime late next year. That's one of...

    MSG gone too from DISH

Are you kidding me? If given the choice, I'll take the MSG/MSG+ HD feed over most of the FOX Sports feeds. On DirecTV, the MSG feeds are arguably one of the clearest HD broadcasts around. To make capacity, most cable networks tend to overcompress the heck out of their digital...

It covers the local SportsNet channel plus Nat Geo and FX. Compared to ESPN who charges north of $3.65 for national games on only a couple channels, each FSN is investing similar resources in producing games that are specific to each local region they cover. I'm saying it doesn't make sense...

Exactly. $0.10 to $0.11/mo is a double digit rate increase (10%) Even if it were worse than Dish is saying and it's $2.50/mo and they're talking about a 50% rate increase -- okay, tack on an extra $1.25/mo, or $15/year -- about the cost of a pizza every year. Is $15/year in savings worth...

You're missing the issue that would result though: loss of subscribers means loss of bargaining position, which means that Dish can't negotiate as aggressively with the other networks. If people leave to go to DirecTV, they're not coming back for at least 2 years if they ever come back at...

DirecTV has approximately 95% of the games in HD, the exclusion being game feeds from Canada. Shaw Direct or Bell satellite service cover maybe 30-40% of the games in HD, with 100% coverage of Canadian teams in HD. DirecTV carries something like 35-45 full time HD regional sports networks...
