Precisely. My area has had HSI through Road Runner for over a decade, I jumped on Verizon DSL when it became available ~ 5 years ago. But, now it seems Verizon doesn't want to do an upgrade from 1.5 Mbps down, let alone bring us FIOS. Just seems like they don't care to compete with TW in my area.

You read wrong. TiVo is doing an update to existing DIRECTV with TiVo boxes. They're not releasing new ones. TiVo has never left DIRECTV and they have an agreement in place for maintenance of boxes until Feb. 2010. The newer MPEG 4 HD programming can't be viewed on a TiVo box, only on MPEG...

For me, it's Sports and prime time programming. As far as Sports on ESPN, that doesn't do much good for the NFL games on CBS, FOX, and NBC. If I relied on ESPN for all my NFL, I'd miss out on the postseason.
