DISH Network reports fourth quarter, year-end 2021 financial results

Couple that with the plethora of reruns they all seem to want to show and it is easy to see how their ‘production’ costs go down.

RSN's Now All Gone - NESN dropped

most reports have shown the RSN’s viewers to only be about 10% of subscribers. And if the sports fans were correct about the future because of a lack of them, DirecTV Stream would be growing and there’s no indication of that being the case.

    dish decline

You could make that argument but you might get some pushback considering live streamers are quite similar to cable/sat

    dish decline

Yes, you can do that though with a live streaming I tend no to since you have to go through setting up recordings

    dish decline

The bitter end seems to be getting closer. The content providers keep raising their prices while losing eyeballs and providing less original scripted shows. The cable replacement services keep raising their rates while losing subscribers as are the cable and sat services. At some point the...

Yep, traditional service is much more convenient, the question is how much is having that convenience worth?

    I’m sick of Dish

I’ve played around with various streaming methods. A live streamer is more convenient and somewhat similar to cable/sat. The problem is that for me there is very little on live TV these days that is of interest. So I’ve switched to discrete services. Works well, can get all the stuff I want to...

Purposely left out as I think they all suck! :)

Dish Price Increase Coming - 11/16/2021

It is easy to see why this trend continues. Outside of sports, there is very little new and original on live TV these days. Virtually every channel has become more of a ‘rerun’ channel than anything else. Why pay big bucks to watch reruns that are available all over the place for low or no cost...

Oh, please say it isn’t so…

Yep, new and/or different shows are being made streaming only these days and VOD services are getting them, more so than the traditional live channels. I don’t sub to cable/sat or a live streaming service, just all VOD and the only show I can’t get that is of interest is Animal Kingdom.

Sinclair warns of 112 channels being dropped by DISH next Monday (8/16)

I’m sure that’s true, but the fact that Sling can break out the Disney stuff into a seperate subscription level shows it could be an option for satellite.

Sinclair warns of 112 channels being dropped by DISH next Monday (8/16)

They can do it on Sling so why not some similar options on Dish?

Sinclair warns of 112 channels being dropped by DISH next Monday (8/16)

While I’m not affected by this situation, I can say that the ‘channels’ are giving more reasons to abandon them. The lack of new, original and interesting things on most channels these days just makes paying for them more unacceptable. With that in mind I quit all of them and only use on demand...

    Thinking cutting the cord

I cut the cord over a year ago and played around with nearly every live streaming service that had the channels I thought i wanted. I mostly watch scripted shows and noticed that there was nearly nothing on that was new and interesting except for the broadcast channels. Some of that certainly...

It still uses some internet data for the guide info. I wouldn’t think that would be much though.

AirTV Dual Tuner Adapter - UPDATED Review

Tuner strength and location seem to go hand in hand. In my case my TV couldn’t get all the local stations, in fact both my Sony X900E and Samsung TVs didn’t. They would get most, but even on some they got, it was flakey. OTOH, on my AirTV Anywhere 4 tuner OTA DVR I get all the channels with no...

Why can’t you order the digital tuner and antenna off the dish website?

I talked to Sling and AirTV support today. The Sling guy was of no real help and sent me over to AirTV support. The woman I talked to said she would bring up the lack of DD5.1 on AirTV to the developers at the next meeting. Currently I switch between the Roku Ultra and FireTV Cube since the...

Why can’t you order the digital tuner and antenna off the dish website?

The AirTV boxes use the SlingTV app so it may be a SlingTV app issue since SlingTV’s streaming service is all stereo.

Why can’t you order the digital tuner and antenna off the dish website?

For info, if it matters, the AirTV OTA tuner doesn’t do DD5.1 audio. Amazon’s Recast does but is locked into the FireTV ecosystem.

Nexstar Media Group threatens largest local station blackout in TV history, according to DISH

There are a few out there. I have a Amazon Recast and an AirTV Anywhere. Recast only works with FireTV devices but works quite well and the cost is a one and done price. No fee for guide services as some other OTA DVRs have. AirTV products tie into the SlingTV app but don’t require a SlingTV...

So now it is yet another in the long list of rerun channels?

Nexstar Media Group threatens largest local station blackout in TV history, according to DISH

That’s certainly a choice. But I believe that Dish lets you drop locals from them and save $12. Oddly enough an ad supported sub to Hulu + CBS All Access works out to be the same. Well actually you can get Hulu w/ads for $1.99/month for 12 months as a new signup.

Nexstar Media Group threatens largest local station blackout in TV history, according to DISH

Then maybe start thinking outside the box... Hulu - next day most NBC, ABC, Fox and FX for most programs CBS:All Access - for CBS stuff
