Cutters Q&A: Sling VP on Why You Can’t Just Move DISH Customers Over to Sling TV

Streaming is a lot less that sending those birds up and to keep them going. Plus with streaming, no up front cost with receivers, coax, installations, etc. Running a stream and using the Fire Stick or Roku is a inexpensive compared to the past.

Cutters Q&A: Sling VP on Why You Can’t Just Move DISH Customers Over to Sling TV

We are lucky here with Spectrum at about 350 down. For about $80 a month.

Cutters Q&A: Sling VP on Why You Can’t Just Move DISH Customers Over to Sling TV

A couple months back I put Dish on pause and went over to Sling. I picked up the Sling Blue and added in 7 packs for an extra $21. So $61 a month and I get more than I did with the Flex pack. I have FXM back along with Boomerang. Also have TCM, CNN, MSNBC, etc. Not bad for the money. No Disney...

Dish VIP Receiver Updates Multiple Times A Day

I still have a VIP211k. They have the built in OTA tuner as well as the outboard HDD. A nice package all together. I bought my original in 2009. If this one dies, I would buy another. I will use them until Dish no longer allows it. As that point, I may go to a streaming service.

    Time for another subscription increase

Is that $62 for Flex Pack with locals? As I am paying $47 now+$12 for locals.

Both Philo & Frndly TV are good.

    Time for another subscription increase

One thing I can do is to drop the News Pack from my Dish packages as most of it streams for free anyway That will save me $10 a month, so with the $5 increase, I will be gaining $5 a month. The problem is solved for the time being here. So I will have Flex, Supers, & locals.

    Time for another subscription increase

The interesting thing is with satellite and cable, for decades we have paid for commercial channels. Now there are thousands of free ad supported channels that stream. Yes, some run re-runs, but most of the news is up there, a lot of free sports, documentaries, etc. I am getting to the point...

    Time for another subscription increase

For the most part satellite & cable TV are on their way out. The reason for a lot of the increases now is to re-coup the losses of the number of subs they have lost. So we are paying the make up amount Dish lost.

    Time for another subscription increase

The paid steaming channels have all gone up. But there are thousands of free channels with Pluto, Xumo, Plex, Free Sling too. Does the Smart pack or welcome pack allow ad ons?

    Time for another subscription increase

That is why I keep my one owned vip211k. I only pay for programming. I stream most of the time. The only channels on Dish I watch seem to be KTLA (Super stations, MSNBC, & TCM. If I could sub to those in a small package I would. I have the Flex pack, but I am considering dropping Dish. I went...

Here we go again, Hearst tv group is gone

I think in the future, a lot of channels may not be offered by satellite/cable as the pricing is getting too high. The latest dispute with with Disney and Spectrum is another example. Both satellite & cable subs are going down all of the time. Ale carte is the only way. If a sub wants a channel...

    Tailgater and VIP211Z

I still use a vip 211K. I love it. Great for a single older guy with the outboard HDD, OTA tuner built in and no fees.

    I need Amazon Prime Help.

Or a Fire Stick. On sale both are $20-$25. I have both and Amazon on both. No issues.

Date when Dish stops broadcasting SD stations/data? Mar 2023?

They don't. I was told switching to SD to HD costs more money than the services want to spend. Even some channels that are in HD, they cost more for Dish to carry them. One is Disney. That is by some of their channels are still in SD. The Super Stations probably will never be offered in HD as so...

People with Fox in Boston, Jacksonville and Eugene should switch to a better provider

This has always been the issue with Dish. I would rather have a slight increase than to do without the channel(s). I signed up with Dish to get all of my channels I pay for. These disputes go on and on and on. Like in the case of Cox, There is still no deal, so for people in Western Washington...

Dish Network desperate to raise money to meet 5G deadline, source says

The programmers are the real cause of many jumping ship from cable & satellite. Their fees are way too much. Back when a cable package was in the $50 range, people flocked to it. Today today sometimes in the $200 range, people cannot afford it. Face it, the choice is much better with streaming.

    Obsolete DishTV equipment?

I have an owned vip211k. At this point, no issues and I will continue to stay with Dish for the time being. I downgraded to the Flex Pack/News. Having Locals/Supers, I stayed with Dish for the $77 a month. Down the road, who knows? I do not plan to replace the vip 211k though.

No Starz offer with Dish anymore?

The Movie Pack is available for $10. I think there is a Starz channel in that. With one Starz channel, I could always stream the rest of the Starz channels with Dish, even though I never directly subscribed to Starz.

    New York Locals

That is right. I recently switched to the Flex pack. I could keep the Supers with that (Now $7), with adds of locals, also news pack.

    Vip receivers

I have the vip211k from 2009. It still is my only receiver. I guess the vip211k will be around for a while as others have said it is MPEG4. I like mine because everything is in one place, inc the OTA tuner. No fee's either.

    Leaving Dish

Come Nov, when my senior citizen deal is over, I want to keep Dish as I want a few channels and locals I cannot get OTA and maybe the Super Stations, if they allow me to keep them. There is the basic International Pak for $15, add locals, up to $27, and Supers $34. I stream so much these days...

Unless Direct & Dish merge. Combined they may hold on a bit longer. In the future it will be all streaming.

Dish Network 1st Quarter 2023 Earning Call

Probably the reason, Dish's prices are not as expensive as some other carriers.
