Any experiance with TimeWarner? Possible Defector here :(

Well, I switched from TW to Dish Network recently. Here is what I noticed: Dish - Limted HD offerings, no local HD (so, I didn't go for it) - 522 dual tuner DVR works well so far - PQ for SD is "acceptable", compression artifacts very noticable - Remote is the best I have used TW...

    pixalation

I have a Mits 55515. If you are viewing on a large screen TV, then it's probably just par for the course.

    522 and signal strength

It would have been nice if Dish has made the power cord removable from the back of the 522. It would make hard reboots easier. Hopefully the won't be required very often. I suppose I should have given more details on the signals. They are as follows: 119 has a signal of 102 on TP 11...

    pixalation

I agree, it needs to be fixed. I moved from Time Warner Digital Cable because I thought there was too much grain going on in the picture, but at least it didn't look all over compressed like this. I am not sure which is the lesser of two evils. At least with TWC, if I was watching locals that...

    pixalation

I have noticed a form of pixelation on my 522 as well. Especially noticeable on the locals, the pixelation looks like the image is made up of thin, vertical "digital strips". They are faint but noticable. Another way to desribe it would be that it looks like someone has placed a filter in...

    2.33???

My unit was off all night and as of this morning, still at 2.32. I'm in California, so maybe it is a local thing.

    522 and signal strength

I wanted to ask if signal strenghts of 90 and 102 are considered good. Also, if I ever need to, how do I perform a hard reboot? Hopefully it can be done without pulling the power cord out as my power strip is no in an easy to reach spot. Regards, Rick

    HDMI and SD Channels

OK, but with an HD box, isn't the native signal digital? I was thinking that the signal reaches the STB in digital form and then if the box didn't have to convert it to analog, it would stay in digital form. That way, the only analog to digital conversion that happens for SD is what is done...

    HDMI and SD Channels

I am curious if using a receiver that uses an HDMI connection to a digital TV would improve SD channels. If I am understanding things correctly, this would skip the receivers conversion to analog and the TVs conversion back to digital. I would think that going digital straight to the TV...

    New Dish Customer Question

Original Question Can anyone confirm if the artifacts I am seeing are expected or if there is something wrong? Again, I am seeing the usual artifacts that everyone is talking about around edges and shading transitions. What I am also seeing are what look like vertical digital "strips"...

    New Dish Customer Question

Thanks for the quick replies! Good information! So, I take it that the verticle "strips" are part of the expected compression artifacts? My TV has an HDMI port on it and I would love to use it, but the 522 only has S-Video. I plan to get an HDTV package as soon as I see one that has more...

    New Dish Customer Question

Greetings! I just had Dish installed for my 55" Mitsubishi RPTV. I went for the 522, a 510 and 301. The 522 is running single mode. The question I have is in regards to the compression artifacts. On my 55", I notice the typical artifacts that everyone talks about (JPG style halos around...
