    8PSK Conversion Update...

If they keep the current degree of compression which obviously isn't ideal but if they keep it I would think they will have space for around 30.

DIRECTV says it will go all HD in 2016 , what about DISH?

Also directv has the name "4KNET" trademarked so I assume that will be a name of one of directv's offerings. Only time will tell.

DIRECTV says it will go all HD in 2016 , what about DISH?

1080p wasn't much of an improvement over the current 1080i/720p broadcasters were already using to be worth the investment. Even 4k isn't worth it for tv's 50" inches or smaller really, it's only a major improvement for people with very large tv's, and larger the TV better the picture will be...

    8PSK Conversion Update...

I really doubt they will do much of #2 as pointed out by others here many are fine with how the HD looks now. Of course many that are saying the HD is fine maybe on the EA. So I predict they will concentrate on #3.

DIRECTV says it will go all HD in 2016 , what about DISH?

If dish could some how get the 110 and 119 transponders from directv the WA would have way more bandwidth than the EA.

DIRECTV says it will go all HD in 2016 , what about DISH?

I doubt it anytime soon as Puerto Rico SD channels are on 110 right now, possibly someday, maybe a trade for 110 transponders for 103 RDBS since directv and dish are fighting over that.

    Dish Network Multiple Recievers?

Its against the terms of conditions... so to Dish it is illegal. Its like anything else, you could possibly get away with it for a bit but eventually you will get caught and whole account cancelled until corrected.

    Dish Network Multiple Recievers?

While the police won't come to your door Dish will cancel the account for misuse. As what you are proposing is against Terms and conditions.

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

For residential accounts, that is correct, a customer is a customer. While every content provider would ban DVR's if they could, they aren't receiving any revenue from them, that doesn't mean that they don't indirectly raise the content fees though.

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

I agree if they stopped charging outlet fees, dvr fees etc, they would have to raise subscription fees significantly to make bank, but that looks bad to the consumer when you charge one large amount on a bill, that is why they nickle and dime ya, literally every company does it.

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

I am in the business, earnings reports etc. If you want the details they are easy to google. The assumption you pay the monthly fee for software upgrades is silly, apple doesn't charge for their software upgrades, even on older devices, buy the equipment they support it, I suppose they could...

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

Cable and Sat companies love outlet fees as they are almost pure profit, they don't have to pay Disney, AMC or anyone for that product, with programming they must purchase and try to resell it for profit, which is getting harder as the programmers keep raising cost, dish charging $12 month for a...

    Smart Card Migration

Unlike dish directv's NDS based videoguard encryption itself has never been publicly hacked. What was hacked were actual vulnerabilities in the access cards themselves (like putting an expensive unpickable lock on a thin easily kicked in door), so once a secure card(heavy duty door)was produced...

    Visit by Dish Tect

Is this true, interesting, with directv you OWN the dish, lnb and all the cabling, which is why they try to charge for service calls to fix them, you usually lease the receivers though. Does dish do free service calls? If they do I suppose it makes since.

    Setup and cabling question

Thanks for the info, though I believe a few things have changed since that post. Most installs get the swm 8 lnb, but some can get the swm 13 lnb as well. Both have no external switch, all built into lnb. External switch is only ever absolutely need for very large installs (more than 13...

    Setup and cabling question

Just curious once inside the home what are the advantages to BSS over SWM. Looking over dish's wiring diagrams I just don't see it, but maybe I am missing something.

    Setup and cabling question

Most likely directv doesn't have any switch or box mounted near the dish, possibly just a grounding block, but what you are proposing should work anyways, just need a place to mount the node.

Can't Get LA Locals in HD

Don't bite my head off for suggesting it but.... on directv the big 4(ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX) LA locals are conus and not spot beamed. I only suggest it as an alternative, assuming an antenna won't work for ya now.

    Setup and cabling question

Also if you are happy with directv have you tried calling the retention dept. and ask for your discounts back, let them know you are thinking about going to dish. Again this is only if you are happy with the service. I am sure you would be happy with dish as well but may save Ya some trouble.

    Setup and cabling question

Directv can have 8 or 13 tuners on a single cable depending on lnb. Most likely have a standard splitter for the second room, which I believe won't work with dish.

Hopper - will 3 tuners be enough?

    Been discussing that lately herehttp://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/index.php?threads/Multiple-tuners-used-to-record-back-to-back-shows-on-same-channel.347210/

Trimmed some fat, and it feels good...

Ya we really don't need 13 tuners, 8 would probably be enough for my family, but when we added the genie we saw no point in exchanging my old HD DVRs for clients when you don't save any money. Directv offered to add the genie and 3 clients and leave one dvr, I would have had 7 tuners but the...
