It's the compression artifacts on Dish that seem much, much worse - even on slowly moving content like an episode of Law & Order. It's not as bad as U-Verse was when it first came out, but it's certainly gone downhill in the last few years. Not horrible, but not close to the quality of DirecTV.

After some time on Dish and now back home on DirecTV, even though the D* receivers are looking a little old, the PQ of DirecTV is certainly better than Dish nowadays. It's not even a subtle difference anymore. So disregard this thread, and just keep the picture quality where it's at... :)

From the Bon Jovi ad - pretty sure the UI is just something the advertising department whipped up for the commercial. After using the new Hopper 3 for the last 4 days, coming back to the Genie really is like "turning back time."

It's interesting that a lot of channels show up in the guide but some are missing like BTN and FS1. But if I tune to those channel numbers directly it works.

I haven't had any problems with my HR44/200 and my H25 client. I had an HR34 before that and didn't have any issues with it either, other than it was a bit sluggish. The HR44 is nice.

I've had 0746 on my HR44/200 since Tuesday. I read somewhere there's a wireless problem with the /200 series. Maybe this fixes it? I use a hard-wired Ethernet connection on mine.

This issue here is the audio drops start small but get worse over time (usually 20 minutes to an hour), after which there's no audio at all and you have to flip the channel. Is that what you see on the 24 also?

I'm not sure if this is still an issue on the HR34 or not, but I was away from DirecTV for a few months and then returned and got an upgrade to the HR44, and the AM21N seems to work perfectly. I haven't had any audio dropouts on my set of "problem channels" that couldn't play for more than 20 or...

Thanks for the advice. It turns out I had a loose coax connection. After tightening things up the 2nd box has an Internet connection, but I'm not sure that the H25 uses it at all for anything... LOL
