    Local ads on satellite

Cool - thanks. Yes, I've seen more than political ads also - mostly car dealerships. I can imagine there's a lot more money to be made here.

    Local ads on satellite

Apologies if this has been discussed a lot in the past but I haven't been visiting here as much... I've noticed that a lot of the satellite channels now have local advertising. I was wondering how they do this? Do they put local ads on a transponder at a certain time and capture them to the DVR...

Should I switch from Uverse to DirecTV?

If you're happy with UVerse I'd stay where you are for awhile. The two services will probably be merged eventually, but both have advantages. I had UVerse a few years ago and it was very nice except for the HD picture quality of the local channels (I think the encoders used for locals weren't up...

    Any new software coming?

It's the compression artifacts on Dish that seem much, much worse - even on slowly moving content like an episode of Law & Order. It's not as bad as U-Verse was when it first came out, but it's certainly gone downhill in the last few years. Not horrible, but not close to the quality of DirecTV.

    Any new software coming?

After some time on Dish and now back home on DirecTV, even though the D* receivers are looking a little old, the PQ of DirecTV is certainly better than Dish nowadays. It's not even a subtle difference anymore. So disregard this thread, and just keep the picture quality where it's at... :)

    Any new software coming?

From the Bon Jovi ad - pretty sure the UI is just something the advertising department whipped up for the commercial. After using the new Hopper 3 for the last 4 days, coming back to the Genie really is like "turning back time."

    Any new software coming?

The latest D* commercials seem to show some other UI... or at least something very different from my HR44..

    Any new software coming?

I am visiting my parents this weekend and they have recently switched from DirecTV to Dish after at least a decade on D* - I have to say that the Hopper is pretty sweet and makes the current D* platform look pretty long in the tooth: not only the speed great compared to my now-sluggish HR44 but...

    Investing in Super Soaker technology

The drone plus super soaker seems to be the way to go! :) Thanks all.

    Investing in Super Soaker technology

Thanks for the ideas, warriors.... Regarding the dish heater, don't you have to run a power line up there?

    Investing in Super Soaker technology

After last weekend's heavy, wet, cling-to-the-dish snow, it's time to invest in some heavy ammo. I'm prepared to drop at LEAST a full $10 on some state of the art water cannon technology, but there are so many models to choose from. You can't put a price on peace of mind, after all, especially...

Bad PQ on one Indy local - something happened since July 8

Good idea. I'll try re-scanning with my AM-21 and see if I can pull it in now. 3 or 4 years ago when I set up my OTA locals it had such a marginal signal that I excluded it.

Bad PQ on one Indy local - something happened since July 8

Hey folks - Wondering what my options are here - Channel 4 in Indianapolis, WTTV, since sometime after July 8th has been having a picture quality problem. The picture "pulses" about once per second and sometimes pixilates a little bit - kind of how UVerse used to behave all the time on all...

Hotel D* - how do they do that?

There's also a Holiday Inn logo next to the channel logo:

Hotel D* - how do they do that?

It's interesting that a lot of channels show up in the guide but some are missing like BTN and FS1. But if I tune to those channel numbers directly it works.

Hotel D* - how do they do that?

I'm staying at a Holiday Inn Express this week, and the LG TV in my room has DirecTV along with a DirecTV remote. I push the guide button and it comes up with the normal blue and black guide and it looks like any DirecTV receiver. The box has a single coax cable running from the wall to the TV...

    Massive DirecTV snow failure

It's too bad the HR44 + AM21 isn't reliable when he satellite signal goes out. What's the point?

    Massive DirecTV snow failure

The temp was still ~31 F at the time... the water was enough to melt the accumulation off before the super cold air hit a few hours later. I'll have to look up dish heaters. This happened last Spring too during March Madness.

    Massive DirecTV snow failure

I got a lot of it cleared away with a garden hose, but I only get SD now. I'm guessing there's something still up there. EDIT: The HD has come back after 20 minutes...

    Massive DirecTV snow failure

It's snowing! Big, wet, sticky flakes! But, my satellite dish is now covered in snow and it's up so high that I can't reach it to brush it off. I have an AM-21 connected, and that was working for awhile, but then it stopped working due to the "searching for signal" error messages from the...

Has the HR44 solved the problems with Genie freezing up?

I haven't had any problems with my HR44/200 and my H25 client. I had an HR34 before that and didn't have any issues with it either, other than it was a bit sluggish. The HR44 is nice.

New Software for Genie out - 0x744

I've had 0746 on my HR44/200 since Tuesday. I read somewhere there's a wireless problem with the /200 series. Maybe this fixes it? I use a hard-wired Ethernet connection on mine.

    AM21 audio dropouts with HR34

This issue here is the audio drops start small but get worse over time (usually 20 minutes to an hour), after which there's no audio at all and you have to flip the channel. Is that what you see on the 24 also?

    AM21 audio dropouts with HR34

I'm not sure if this is still an issue on the HR34 or not, but I was away from DirecTV for a few months and then returned and got an upgrade to the HR44, and the AM21N seems to work perfectly. I haven't had any audio dropouts on my set of "problem channels" that couldn't play for more than 20 or...

What am I missing (no Internet on 2nd receiver)?

Thanks for the advice. It turns out I had a loose coax connection. After tightening things up the 2nd box has an Internet connection, but I'm not sure that the H25 uses it at all for anything... LOL
