    Chase Carey Leaving DirecTV?

I hate to say it, but AT&T SUCKS! Their Uverse was known for over-compression of the HD programming. They have done nothing but screwed up what once was great PacBell DSL service. It is now slower than ever, and constantly losing one feature after another. Their cell phone service is amongst the...

    New sign up questions

Separate Video, more commonly known as S-Video, and sometimes incorrectly referred to as "Super Video" and also known as Y/C, is an Analog signal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia video signal that carries the video data as two separate signals, luma (luminance) and chroma (colour). This...

Comparing DirecTV & Dish but need info on billing practices and reliability

I switched from TWC to D* in July 2008 and could not be happier. The HD picture quality of D* is so much better than that which I experienced on TWC. I have not had any problems with my HR021 HDDVR since day 1. I enjoy being able to select programs to record while I'm at work, both from the...

What happened to being the HD leader?

FIOS and fiber are the same thing though. Verizon does not hold a lock on the term FIOS which just stands for Fiber Optic Service.

What happened to being the HD leader?

OK, I'll buy that. Although AT&T and TW Cable both claim that they provide FIOS service, just not mentioning that it is only to the node.

What happened to being the HD leader?

Is the FIOS available to you via a cable company, phone company such as AT&T, or Verizon? In my area, we have the choice of AT&T or Time Warner. Both of them are jokes compared to D*. I wish I was in a Verizon area so that I could switch to their FIOS service ... but being in an AT&T area...

    Transfer video to PC?

I would not think that a USB cable connection would work as the PC will only recognize a hard drive formatted in its own protocol. The computer will not recognize anything formatted outside its own operating system. If you connect a sata drive to the satellite dvr via e-sata, the first thing...

Why does D* charge extra for HD equipment and programming?

Fair enough, except, TWC also charged us $5 extra for the two extra TV's. So that extra $5/month is across the board.

Why does D* charge extra for HD equipment and programming?

My wife returned our Time Warner DVR today. In the TWC store, they had ads about getting two more channels in HD very soon ... let's see, that will bring them here to 15 channels instead of 13 ... as compared to D*'s 45 ... hey!!! That brings D* down to only 3 times as many

    Time Warner Commercial

AMEN!!! They just lost another customer today when my wife called to cancel our TWC service after having D* installed yesterday. They asked her why ... she said her husband wanted MORE HD ... and I got it too ... 46 channels as opposed to TWC's 13. They said they are increasing their number of...

New HR21-100 No Sound with Dolby Digital ON HD Channels

This issue is resolved and I'm a happy camper again: Actually, it happened when I attempted to enter the codes to allow the remote that came with the HR21 to work with the TV and AVR. Although I use a Harmony 880, my wife prefers the old fashioned way of multiple remotes. So I was trying to...

New HR21-100 No Sound with Dolby Digital ON HD Channels

Thanks for your reply. Everything is properly set up in the Denon receiver. It actually worked for about 10-15 minutes before losing the DD input signal. The Denon will auto detect any input signal and automatically play whatever comes in. It has worked with the TWC Moto DVR for a couple of...

New HR21-100 No Sound with Dolby Digital ON HD Channels

I was just installed yesterday, a new customer, with an HR21-100 which did an auto-upgrade to software 0x255 on installation. It is connected to a Sony 46W3000 via HDMI, the picture is fine. It is also connected directly HR21 to a Denon AVR1803 receiver via digital coax. The sound on the TV is...

Why does D* charge extra for HD equipment and programming?

Well, we have it. It was touch and go for a bit, the installer wasn't sure he could get a good signal as our mounting locations were a bit limited. We not only live in a condo, 4 units per side of building, 2 up and 2 down on either side of a center entryway ... but I am on the Board of...

Why does D* charge extra for HD equipment and programming?

Well RACJ2, keep in mind that you will mostly see complaints on line on these boards. How many of those things are out there that you don't hear about because they do work? I'm sure that number is quite a bit larger than the complaints you do see ... the squeeky wheel is the one you hear most...

Why does D* charge extra for HD equipment and programming?

RAJC, you got it. I get mine this Friday. Of course, you will have to give me some time to get those recordings done. I'm on my 3rd TWC DVR though, the first two having more serious issues right off the block ... like not saving the channel guide, needing constant reboots. In fact, the first...

New Receiver: H23 (UPDATE: Now with Pictures)

Thank you Jef from another newbie. The other post's suggestion to search for the terms brings up 500 hits on "BBC" ... that's a lot of posts to look through to find out what they even stand for ... other than British Broadcast System of course. I didn't try SWM after that as I'm sure there would...

Why does D* charge extra for HD equipment and programming?

That is what I currently have. A Time Warner Cable (TWC) Motorola DCT6416 III DVR. Time Warner quite generously gives me 13 HD channels at no extra cost. I can add 4 more HD channels for only $5 a month more. I can only use one output from the DVR at a time, so I can't record to a DVDR or even a...

    HDMI cable

If you look at abccables dot com slash info-hdmi-max-length, just type that into the address line using the appropriate symbols for the text, you will see why HDMI cables pretty much peak out after 50 feet. ABC Cables is a company that specializes in cables, they should know what they are...

    directv ondemand doesn't work

I've got a question on this. D* says it's best to use a hard wired connection rather than wireless. But ... with a 3.0Mbps DSL connection, and a 54Mbps wireless connection, the wireless will never be anything close to slower than the DSL connection itself. Wired would be no faster than wireless...

    HDMI - DVI Cable

One correction to this, DVI does NOT support audio at all. It does not have the bandwidth to do so. The DVI adapter will support the HD video, as will Component. Either would be comparable as you are looking at a lossless digital video signal either way. The main advantage to HDMI over Component...
