I closed out my Directv account a week ago today. They said they would be sending packaging so that I could send my receivers back. Anyone know how long that takes for the packaging to arrive? I imagine it will be here soon, but I want to make sure because I don't want to get stuck with...

Update: Just called and spoke with a CSR. Her words, "I'm showing that you are no longer under commitment with us." Very nice...Dish Network and local channels, here I come.

Ok, I will end up calling to check. I have never had a service call or receiver replacement/upgrade. The only thing I've ever had was the Movers Connection a couple months back when we moved, but there is nothing that I can see about Movers Connection extending a commitment.

Very good information. Also, the Directv dish (round one) is mounted on a utility pole. Is the Dish dish able to fit on the same mounting arm or would the installer have to remove the entire mounting arm to put up a Dish one? Thanks again for the help everyone.

Now that Dish has my local channels and Directv does not, I'm pretty much 99% sure I'm making the switch. Do I have to call Directv and have my account cancelled before the Dish installer comes to set it up? How long does account cancellation take?

Dish Network is now offering local channels for Alexandria, LA. These locals are not available on Directv though. Why is that? Do these come available for both services within a similar time frame?
